Hannibal Rising is forgetable, literrally, can't remember much from it, I do have to admit that at least I didn't hate it like with Hannibal even if it does have Hopkins who will forever be the superior Hannibal

I like Madss.. but I sometimes cannot understand him.

SCREENSHOTS
(1934 x 1088)

2009 BLU-RAY COMPARISONS
(1280 x 740)

The 4K Blu-ray will be film-only, no extra bonus features.

Uhhhhh I don't know, can't really see much of a difference between the 2 Blu-rays myself. The new one looks a lot darker in spots, resulting in lack of detail and clarity of objects. If anything it's more of a DE-grade rather than an improvement in picture quality...

While I had a chance, also took a look at screenshots of the original 1999 DVD version compared to the 2009 Blu-ray and.......wow.

1999 DVD

2009 Blu-ray

1999 DVD

2009 Blu-ray

1999 DVD

2009 Blu-ray

1999 DVD

2009 Blu-ray

Until I saw these shots, really had no idea how much they kind of botched the Blu-ray transfer of this movie. It seems to be have been taken mainly from that 2005 DVD re-release which in itself was, pretty bad in the 1st place. Very glad I kept my 1999 copy around, it may still stand as best transfer of the movie to date!

One thing I thought was pretty interesting to point out, due to the higher-res image quality of the Blu-ray little SFX quirks are more easily noticeable.

Such as in this shot, you can see how the effects guys screwed around with portions of the buildings in order to drop Stay Puft into the scene optically...

So fellow GB fans, are you enticed by seeing one of your favorite movies of all-time in Sony's new state-of-the-art 4K format?

4K is the next gimmick for people who have too much money. There isn't a huge difference between 4K and 1080p.....and hell, if you've got $26,000 to spend on a TV I'm sure you have enough money to upgrade from the Blu Ray version so that slimer will be just that tad much greener...

CRAZY Food Promo for a Crazy Popular Japanese Anime...

To celebrate today's video release of the 3rd film in the current "Rebuild" saga of the insanely popular giant robot anime epic EVANGELION, a burger chain in Japan called Lotteria are offering a whopper of a tie-in promotional deal...

Known for offering silly-sized multi-layer pattied burgers, for this one they're serving up perhaps their most ridiculous yet - a 9-pattied "Q-Story Cheese Burger"! xD

Why NINE patties, you ask?

The the new film, officially 3.33: YOU CAN (NOT) REDO, also goes under title in Japan of SHIN GEKIJOUBAN: Q. Written out phonetically, "Q" is spelled "Kyuu", which happens to be the number "9" in Japanese. It's a bit of stylized artistic license(that this series is usually known for) that they used the English letter "Q" instead of the Japanese Kanji symbol "" as normally would be. So, get it?

The Q burger promotion starts today April 24th, lasts 'til the end of May and will cost 1,280 yen($12.86 US). If that wasn't enough, it comes bundled with this neato Longinus Lance replica FORK!

Could you possibly deny such a treat of this sort?

Adventures in Photomanipping (Fixing a Good Idea, Poorly Executed)

For this little project, I want to swap out that (God-awful)Pyramid Head seen in the image above.........with the rightful one from the game, SILENT HILL 2.

First things first, we gotta take that sum-a-bitch OUT!

I'm talking gone without a trace, no evidence that he was ever there at all. The photoshop Gods of lore were gracious enough to bestow upon us the perfect tool to carry out such a lofty task, by granting us the mighty power of...

The CLONE Stamper!!!

Simply, the best thing ever.

Now that we're clear of that fuckin' bastard, time to put in the new guy. For that, gotta find the right image of PH that fits the space and perspective of the scene.

GOT IT

Now to extract PH from that image and paste into the main one I want to see him in. Modified a little, don't need that spear so erase that shit out and flip him horizontally to be facing the right way and.......voila!

End up with this.

Still too BIG guy! Gotta shrink ya down a bit...

Ahhhhhh, that's better.

Looks about right, but the dudes still too fucking "bright". He needs to fit the mood & atmosphere of the scene so.....let's just dim the lights on this weirdo by adjusting the brightness/contrast settings.

Oh, now that's spooky! ;P

Well everything looks to be in order. I can't help but think there's one thing, one nagging little bit of element missing here.

AH I know what it is!

Now to add the 'piece de resistance', that one last bit that will add convincing reality to this visual forgery - SHADOW!

Brilliant!

And............there you have it.

My job is done.

Here are a couple other alternate versions I made from a different SH2 image of PH:

My Loving Tribute to the SILENT HILL HD COLLECTION (SH2 / SH3)

Silent-hill-hd-collection-cover-art

Today marks the very special 1-year anniversary of my most favorite and bestest thing in the world - the SILENT HILL HD Collection, released on March 20th 2012. High-def upgrades of SILENT HILL 2(2001) and SILENT HILL 3(2003), updated visual graphics and 5.1 surround sound and best of all *NEW* voice acting!

Oh my stars, I don't know where to begin.

What a glorious day of rapturous joy and joyousness. A time to reminisce and take a look back to bask in this superlative HD remaster's warm glowing warming glow. And this wouldn't have been possible at all, without the efforts of everyone involved with this comprehensive production. I just want to THANK YOU Konami, for bringing such happiness and utter delight into mine and so many other fans' lives awaiting this update for so long.

But first, I'd also like to thank the studio hired by Konami in charge of overseeing the completion of these revised set of games.

As you can tell, with their superb resume, Hijinx Studios was more than qualified and up to the task of bringing 2 storied classics of deep, psychological survival horror video game lore into the modern era of gaming standards.

Here now, is what they did to IMPROVE upon those old, outdated PS2 releases...

PS2 vs. HD (PS3 / XBOX 360)

GREAT creative decisions to change or alter elements, like the numbers on this road sign. I mean, sure those had to be incorrect before! The original team didn't know what they were doing, it's much better now.

More clarity, better visual imagery, everything (literally)cleaned UP! Look at how dirty and awful those streets were before. I can read the subtitles SO much clearer now.

HD (PS3 / XBOX 360)                                PS2

See how much they've cleared away that useless, cluttering fog effect? You can now actually SEE the background detail and structure of the game world!

I just, love how they've drained the colors, saturated and muted the overall picture AND dimmed the brightness/contrast down. It's so much more dark, oppressive and gloomy. PERFECT for a horror game such as THESE!

This is Silent Hill, we don't need no fucking LIGHT & SHADOW effects! What were the original dev team of artists thinking anyway? Such lavish and unnecessary graphical excess, save that for the games that actually need it yo. It just gets in the way!

This new team proved how smart they were by changing certain lines of dialogue, like this one. Now it's "I'll KILL you you BITCH!"

Wicked.

Now it's "terrible taste", and "Shut your mouth you stinkin' bitch!".

They re-arranged the words "mouth" and "stinkin'", and added an extra "you". And the great thing about the new words are, they've actually kept the SUBTITLES the SAME! So you get the benefit of the new dialogue, and see what what was there before. Truly the best of both worlds!

Brilliant.

The water FX look so much more COOLER!

So vibrant and wavy, catches my attention much more than that cruddy, murky realistic water in the old version. Again - LESS FOG.

This is just.......oh, aMAy-ZING!!!

Not even the original Japanese team could think up such an ingenious idea as putting TEETH into Maria's EYE SOCKET! They've just, elevated the horror in SH2 to a whole 'nother level. I know, hard to believe!

No need to stretch out those original 4:3 pre-renedered FMV cut scenes to fill out your 16:9 TV screen.......they've done it for you!

HOW CONVENIENT.

Speaking of which, that brings me to by FAR........my favorite new addition in the HD revision.

VOILA:

PS2

HD (PS3 / XBOX 360)

Boy I tell ya, I could go endlessly on and on about how wonderful this HD revision of 2 of my favorite video games of all-time are....showering with praise. But, there simply isn't enough time in the day. Too bad because, I didn't even get to the updated audio, music and sound FX! Why those just may be the best part of it all.

Really hope I get to actually play it, of course. But I don't even need to, you know why? I know in my heart that, they did the best job in bringing these 2 horror classics to a whole new generation of modern game enthusiasts. So what if they left out SH1 and 4, eh?

2 games is enough for a COLLECTION.

Ya know I was really worried they were gonna horribly botch this, initially? Cause, in the hands of hacks this could have turned out pretty fucked up. I was just being, silly. *whew*

Crisis.........averted.

There is NO denying that this, the SILENT HILL HD COLLECTION, is THE greatest update and classic video game remaster ever done. I defy you to name me one better, it is undeniable.

UNdeniable.

UN-DEE-NAI-AAAAAAAA-BLE!
