#1 Movie of All-Time
#1 Movie Character
Here is a list of all the movies on JoBlo.com new release date that I am interested in with a description of movies from what I know and my interest level. Movies can always change based on trailers, word of mouth, etc, but here they are:
Zero Dark Thirty – The movie about the hunt for Osama Bin Ladin. Up for several awards and I’ve heard it is really good. For me, I really can wait to see it and don’t think it begs to be seen on the big screen, waiting for Blu Ray.
Gangster Squad – A noir film about a squad of police men trying to get gangsters in the 20’s or 30’s LA. I loved these types of movies before and the cast is amazing yet I can wait till home. Don’t really want to pay to watch it though, so HBO.
The Last Stand – Arnold Schwarzenegger returns to action films when a guy in a car is trying to cross the boarder and only he, Johnny Knoxville and Luis Guzman can stop him. Yes, this looks as crappy as it sounds. Probably will never see it.
Broken City – Russel Crow and Mark Wahlburg star in this movie about, who really cares, it doesn’t look like a ‘MUST’ watch but these two are ‘good enough that it is a going to eventually watch’, just at home.
Mama – The trailer is really good and even though he is just presenting it, I like Guillermo del Toro. It will probably be really bad but I would RedBox this.
Movie 43 – On one hand, this movie looks REALLY crappy. On the other, there are a lot of stars in it that I like. On the last hand, there are a lot of stars in it that pick crappy projects. I’ll eventually watch this but not until it is on Blu Ray.
Hansel and Gretel – Wow this looks bad. Horrible even. I wasn’t a fan of The Brothers Grimm or Van Helsing and it looks like a rip off of those. Wait till it is on TV, not even pay TV.
John Dies at the End – A bizarre looking movie that really intrigues me. Might not be a theater movie but just misses it.
Warm Bodies – Damn this looks good, a zombie romantic comedy with Rob Corddry as the buddy. Want to see!
Identity Theft – Jason Batteman plays . . . well the same guy he always plays, uptight and all together guy who’s life turns upside down when Melissa McCarthy, playing a grown up Honey Boo-Boo, steals his identity. Looks really funny and I like the people in it however I’m not sure if I’ll see it in the theaters.
Side Effects – The trailers haven’t sold me on this movie about a woman who takes some experimental drugs and kills her husband (Seriously, how can the trailers say that!). If the reviews come in strong it could be good however as it stands it looks like it could be this years Contagion – something that has a great premise and looks good but I’ll never see.
A Good Day to Die Hard – Die Hard 5. I’m there.
Jack the Giant Slayer – Man, this looks worse than Hansel and Gretel save one thing – Ewan McGregor is in it. That dude is awesome and knows how to pick a project. As it stands, I won’t watch it however it could have strong reviews and I may be interested.
Oz The Great and Powerful – Tim Burton takes on the Wizard of Oz. Man, he has been striking out a lot lately and this one looks worse than ever with the green screen but I’ll eventually watch it.
Admission – Tina Fey is an admissions officer at Princeton who runs into Paul Rudd who is trying to get a student into Princeton and . . . screw it, Tina Fey and Paul Rudd! Right now this is a rental but strong reviews could switch it to theaters.
The Incredible Burt Wonderstone – Steve Carell and Steve Buscemi are magicians like Sigfred and Roy who are going against a David Blane like Jim Carrey. Plus Olivia Wilde is in it. Theater!
G.I. Joe Retaliation – This movie is going to be bad. Real bad. But I have every G.I. Joe comic and action figure in my parents basement. And the Terror Drone. That thing was the bomb. Looking back I wish I got the USS Flagg instead, but the Drone still rocks. Theater.
Jurassic Park 3D – I remember all 3 times seeing it in the theater. April 6th I remember all 4 times I saw it in the theater.
Evil Dead – The trailers look awesome and I loved the original! Theaters.
42 – Harrison Ford stars in a biopic about Jackie Robinson. Might not see it in the theater but if Ford gets Oscar buzz I will buy the Blu Ray.
Oblivion – Tom Cruise movie is a plus. It is about him going around the ruins of earth trying to fix it for the return of humans, another plus. Wait – things might not be what they seem and it looks like an actual smart movie – Midnight showing.
Pain and Gain – Mark Wahlberg and The Rock star in a movie that looks like a classic cheesy Michael Bay film. Could be fun, I probably won’t see it in the theaters but look forward to watching it.
Iron Man 3 – Midnight showing.
The Great Gatsby – Leonardo is a great actor and I like Baz’ movies. This is one that I might watch just because it will look great on the big screen.
Star Trek: Into the Darkness – The 9 minute preview before The Hobbit was better than about half the movies I saw last year. God damn it looks great. Midnight.
Epic – A cartoon that looks a lot like The Littles and Avatar. Could be cute for kids, not for me, but for the kids. I’ll eventually watch it on TV, but not in the theater.
The Hangover Part 3 – Never saw the 2 nd one but I’m back at home in Chicago with my fraternity brothers and there is a brew and view close to my house. Probably theaters.
Fast Six – If the first 5 go on Netflix and I catch up on the series I may see it, however I don’t see that happening.
After Earth – Basically like Oblivion only staring Will Smith’s son because lets face it, Will will die quickly in this movie and we will be screwed watching his less talented son. Not for me.
Man of Steel – I’m one of the few people who didn’t like the trailer however Zod was cool as crap in Superman 2. Midnight.
This is the End – Celebrities surviving the end of the world seems like a crappy movie, oh, they are playing themselves? That is some very Meta crap right there! Interested, if the reviews are good.
Monster U – It’s a Pixar prequel to Monsters, Inc. I will buy this on Blu Ray and probably see it with my cousins or friends kids.
World War Z – Damn the trailer looks bad but Brad Pitt is cool and the book was amazing. I may or may not see it, I will know closer to June.
Kick Ass 2 – First movie was great and this one has Lindy Booth (One of my favorite hotties). I’m there!
White House Down – There have been no trailers for this one yet, however it is about President Jamie Foxx and Secret Service Agent Channing Tatum going around a terrorist taken over White House. Yes, this is Air Force One on the ground. Where is my ‘Not interested’ sign to hang on this movie?
Despicable Me 2 – The first movie was great however there is no need to see it in the theater, I’ll just blind buy the Blu Ray.
The Lone Ranger – This has all the markings of a really bad movie. Johnny Depp in a crazy roll as Tonto. A type of movie that hasn’t been popular for a while. Then I saw a trailer and it reminded me of the first Pirates movie, one of my favorite movies of all time. And it is by the same people. Could be sold on it.
Pacific Rim – Giant robots fight off giant monsters trying to take over the world being made by the visionary director Guillermo del Toro. Plus Idris Elbis is in it! SOLD. Midnight. Done.
Grown Ups 2 – So this answers the questions no one asked after watching Grown Ups #1. Well, the good news is that the people who enjoyed Grown Ups #1 were too stupid to find their cars in the parking lot after the first movie came out so they will still be at the theater for this one.
Turbo– Basically Cars, just not done by Pixar and with snails instead of cars. Nope.
The Wolverine – I’m a sucker for the X-Men movies and this one looks to be one of the better ones. Opening weekend.
The Smurfs 2 – Why?
300: Rise of an Empire – Man, not sure about this one. I liked the first one a lot, however it isn’t a ‘summer’ movie and this is at the end of the summer. If this came out in January or February I’d be al for it but coming out in August. Game day decision.
Red 2 – The first one was good enough, it wasn’t great but wasn’t bad either and this one looks like a lot of the same. Probably eventually see it in the theater.
Planes – A pixar sidequel following planes instead of Cars. Buy on Blu Ray, won’t see in the theater.
Percy Jackson 2 – I liked the first one when I rented it from the library. I hope to like this one when I rent it from the library.
The Mortal Instruments – The typical ‘There is a secret world that humans can’t see’ type of movie, this time it is a group of people who kill the supernatural and one girl who can see it. I kind of look forward to watching this on Red Box.
I, Frankenstein – Frankenstein is immortal from Mary Shelly times and is struggling to be human in our time. This could either be really good or like a CW drama. Not sure yet.
Star Wars Episode 2 in 3D – Yes, I’m of course watching the worst Star Wars theater in the theaters.
Prisoners – A man kidnaps the person he suspects kidnapped his daughter. With a cast of Jake Gyllenhaal, Paul Dano, Terrence Howard and Hugh Jackman it could be really good, but still don’t know enough yet to make a judgement.
Star Wars Episode 3 in 3D – If I’m seeing the worst Star Wars again in the theaters, you are damn sure I’m watching the 2nd best in the theaters!
Sin City: A Dame to Kill For – Sin City 1 was damn good and although I don’t think this movie will come out this year, if the release date is really October 4th I’ll see it sometime in the theater.
Captain Philips – Remember those Somali pirates who took over a US ship in 2009 (South Park did an episode about it), well this is a movie based on that true story staring Tom Hanks as titular Captain Philips. Not enough info to know for sure but I am intrigued.
Carrie – The original was great and this one looks pretty damn good too. Could be a great October movie!
The World’s End – The guys who made Spaced, Hot Fuzz and Shaun of the Dead make something. I’m there opening day.
Enders Game – So after a war with aliens, the people who are gifted are sent off into space to learn how to defend earth in a school to prepare for a future invasion. Not enough to excite you, four words - Drill Sergeant Harrison Ford. I’m there!
Thor 2 – Midnight.
Hunger Games 2 – I liked the books and the movie was good enough for me to check this one out in the theaters.
Frozen – Not much is known about this Disney animated movie other than it looks pretty. Probably wait to buy on Blu Ray.
The Hobbit 2 – Midnight.
Anchorman 2 – Opening weekend.
Saving Mr. Banks – Tom Hanks stars as Walt Disney 10 year journey trying to buy the rights to Mary Poppins. I’m a huge Disney nerd and will eventually watch this, but probably not in theaters.
47 Robin – A group of samurai go out and avenge the death of their master. I normally would only see something like this on TV (though Last Samurai was tight), but Keanu Reeves stars in it and they are saying it has elements of Lord of the Rings. Not saying I’m there, but it seems pretty good.
Jack Ryan – This is a Tom Clancy movie with Jack Ryan (Hunt for Red October, Clear and Present Danger, Patriot Games) doing something staring Chris Pine as Jack Ryan. I liked the first 3 movies and Chris Pine is awesome so I’ll probably see it.
