Worst Re-Make Ever '' #4 '' PROM NIGHT
Being Canadian , you understand that we won't be churning out flicks like our Amigo's South of the Border . And that's cool . We occasionally have to scratch our heads when we see films being shot in Canada because it costs next to nothing to do so . Everyone does it , and good for them . Everyone but Canadians , that is .
But when Canuck filmmakers DO put out some Cinema , it usually rocks . Cronenberg's '' VIDEODROME '' , '' THE BROOD '' , '' THE FLY '' . Peter Medak's Classic , creepy , Haunted House flick '' THE CHANGELING '' and more seriously sweet Directors , writers , and actors .
One thing you must understand , is that you can never fuck with Canadian Classics , or the friendliest nation in the World , will hunt you down like a rabid dog .
Way back in 1980 , Director Paul Lynch lured Jamie Lee Curtis across the border to star in his Epic Slasher Film '' PROM NIGHT '' .
While the Film isn't close to the greats like '' HALLOWEEN '' , '' TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE '' or fellow Canadian Bob Clark's '' BLACK CHRISTMAS '' , it was a sweet ride , adored over here , admired over there , and boasted scares showing .... nothing .
A group of young children are repeatedly teasing a younger girl , and when they trap her in an abandoned building , she falls through a window and is killed . Years later , blah , blah , blah .
The flick has developed a huge cult following , and can often be found on ' Great Slasher ' lists .
Fast forward to the year 2008 , when Tinsletown kicked out the inevitable re-do , starring the Smokin' Hott Brittany Snow . So far , so good . Actually , that's about it for positives ,that you can take away from this waste of perfectly good film .
This pile of you know what , isn't even remotely similar to it's source material , opting for a young teen hiding under the bed while her obsessed Teacher murders everyone he can find . Hey , could I make that up ?? Years later , said stalk-ee is living with her Aunt and Uncle , who wander about aimlessly , wringing their hands every time she leaves the house . Teach escapes .... blah , blah , blah (and not in a good way . Hell , I think Britt's great , but c'mon !!
Once more , a film that means nothing , because you're praying they'll all be slaughtered .
For shame Hollywood , you don't fuck with a Canadian Classic .

Ohhhhh Timmyd this was indeed a steaming pile of shit. It's actually fun to watch to make fun of.
The most preposterous aspect , is this freakin' Teacher . With 8 Million Cops , the National Guard , all the armed forces , and kids from the local ' Pop Warner ' football team guarding this Hotel , Teach slips through , because that's the first thing they teach you as a Grad Student , how to move like a fuckin' Ninja !! It's friggin' insulting , thinkin film goers will swallow this BULLSHIT !!
