Review:

Wow...Where do I start, where do I begin...

"Disaster Movie" is the worst comedy I've seen so far. I'm a guy who enjoys comedies of the stupid, the goofy, and the surreal, but this movie was just incredibly stupid (in the worst way)

The major problem is that the film's writers/directors, Jason Friedberg & Aaron Seltzer, thinks that simply referencing celebrities and recently released movies is parody. However, referencing = / = spoofing.

What's even worse is that Friedberg and Seltzer seem to have seen the trailers to the "spoofed" films instead OF THE ACTUAL FILMS THEMSELVES and just carbon copied the scenes from the trailers into the movie. Hey, want to see an unfunny version of that very funny foot gag from the "You Don't Mess With the Zohan" trailer? Want to see a lazy take of the introduction scene of the "Hancock" trailer? Or perhaps a take on Guru Pitka's handshake from "The Love Guru"'s trailer? Hey, don't know what movie character their referencing? No problem! F&S make sure that each character says their name before doing a joke.

You see where I'm going with this.

It seems that the directors slapped together this movie with little to no effort whatsoever to get it into theaters as quickly as possible, without stopping to notice that the jokes are failing right before their eyes. It's quite amazing how the studio LionsGate actually thought this movie was worth a theatrical release. It should have been sent straight to DVD, collecting dust and cobwebs at the local Blockbuster.

While this is an awful movie, there were some things in it I found amusing. A scene involving Alvin & The Chipmunks (hmm, don't recall that being a disaster movie) and a take on Jumper (ditto) made me laugh, plus the actresses who played Juno and the princess from "Enchanted" made the viewing experience a little bearable with their game performances. Otherwise, that's about it. Not good for a "comedy."

In closing, "Disaster Movie" is a train wreck. It's a waste of time, money, and film altogether. Watching the film online, I felt blessed that I didn't make the stupid mistake of shelling out $11 bucks to see this junk, and also that the film is thankfully short. The movie is only around 70 minutes, which are minutes that I've lost and will never return.

This "movie" is not a parody; it's just a pathetic excuse to reference as much random recent movies and characters as possible, instead of focusing on, I don't know...SPOOFING ACTUAL DISASTER MOVIES! To show what I mean, here's an example:

Non-Disaster Movies Referenced: Juno, Zohan, Sex and the City, High School Musical, Alvin & The Chipmunks, Iron Man, Hulk, Hellboy, Batman, Beowulf, Jumper, Indiana Jones, Hancock, The Love Guru, Enchanted, Get Smart, Wanted, Kung-Fu Panda, Speed Racer, Narnia, Superbad, No Country For Old Men, Night At the Museum

Actual Disaster Movies Referenced: Cloverfield, Twister

FAIL.

Friedberg and Seltzer obviously think we, the movie goers, are stupid. Somehow, they had the thought that we would find this to be a gut-buster. Instead, it makes us angry that these two were actually paid to "write" and "direct" this thing, and that their asking us to throw our hard-earned money at them. Thankfully, enough people were wise enough to skip this movie at theaters, as the film flopped at the box-office and so far we had no announcement of another Friedberg and Seltzer "spoof."

And for that, we are thankful.
