First Blood was awesome and if any movie is awesome then you know you need to make a sequel. Problem is how do you make a sequel to First Blood when your main character -SPOILER ALERT- pretty much blows up an entire town at the end of the movie ans one would assume is sent to prison, and rightfully so, for the rest of his days? Well you have the government release him to send him back to Vietnam on a suicide mission that no one could ever accomplish. Well no one but Rambo that is, I mean c'mon he IS Rambo after all.
So this time instead of Rambo being hunted in the woods by a bunch of good old boy cops that are in way over their heads we have Rambo back in the jungles of Vietnam looking for some long held captive POWs. and this time Rambo really gets to let his hair down and go to war.
Stallone is back as John Rambo who is only supposed to take pictures of the POWs but once he finds them he sets off on a new mission of his own to rescue them and bring them back. Although I thought Stallone was better in the first movie as Rambo this is the one that made Rambo a household name and gave him the legacy that he was known for. That's not to say Stallone isn't as good in this movie as he was in the first movie it just means his character gets to move forward in a different direction which is good for any character if you want your series to continue.
Like any good action sequel the action is ramped way up this time around with Rambo's body count going through the roof. If you want a movie with explosions then boy is this ever the movie for you.
Rambo: First Blood Part II was the most successful movie of the series and gave way for Rambo to become a hero to children everywhere which means there were going to be Rambo toys and as was the style in the 1980's an animated series. Rambo is another one of those series that was targeted towards children that had no reason to be given the subject matter and paved the way for other movies like that following the same path like Robocop and The Toxic Avenger.
Overall Rambo: First Blood Part II is a far cry from the first movie but is still a great movie for pure non-stop, balls to the wall action with a great leading character this is a great movie. I give this one a 8 out of 10.
