My biggest cinematic letdown was...
Spider-Man 3. After amazing trailers and incredible TV Spots I was just amped for this movie. I walked out...confused. I wanted to love it but something was preventing me from doing so. There was just to much wrong with this flick. Looking at it now...I really don't think it's that bad of a movie, just no where near as good as the previous 2.
It's in my top five worst cinematic experiences of all time. I remember wanting to gouge my eyes out. I think it's worse than people say it is.
^ yeah it is. The action sequences were damn good still. It's just a shame that that trilogy ended on that note. Again, not to horrible when you look at it now...but still.
Sandman had potential but I think without Venom the movie would have still been an abomination. I'm not too surprised Sony took hold of the series once this was released. Raimi really screwed it up.
^I still believe if Raimi could've made the movie he wanted it would've been great. The studio really screwed it up, not Raimi.
Raimi's series was flawed either way. His turning villains in to misunderstood nice guys was horrible. It was only the surface in a series of missteps Raimi's series took. Spider Man 3 was doomed from minute one.
I was just talking to somebody about this on facebook. Same as you, I saw the ads and was psyched. After watching the movie, I felt like crawling into a hole and dying. I agree with it being the biggest cinematic letdown. This is the only movie in my life that made me feel like total shit. lmao.
Yep, the levels of excitement for Spiderman 3 were inversely proportionate to the quality of the actual final product. :( Biggest letdown ever.
@randy - That's some good math right there.
I don't think it's quite the travesty some have made it out to be......but, it's certainly not good. I'm not even THAT big on the 1st two flicks, but this wasn't anywhere near their level of quality. The FX are cool, and I like 'some' of the stuff with Venom. But they could have done a way, WAY better job of representing him cinematically.
Venom should have been the focus of part four. That would have made much more sense than turning him in to a goofy crony. And having his head slide back every time Eddie Brock spoke was beyond stupid. I'm sorry I think it's a travesty in every sense of the word.
They should've watched the 3-Part Venom arc in the animated series. Just do a live-action conversion of that, how hard would that have been? Hank Azaria made for a better Venom than Topher Grace. Ironically, I thought Topher would have made a great Peter Parker.
I think Doc Ock was overrated as a villain too. Really, the chip and the arms are evil but he's a good guy after all? Molina was good in the part and he looked great but, jesus. Green Goblin was a much better villain.......he just looked like shit.
Oh no, never take notes from the 90's animated series. That watered down fluff should stay away from any Spider-Man movies. Just take from the comic books. Venom needed to be the focus of the fourth movie entirely not Vulture and vultress.
^ It did the Venom origin story a LOT better, than the movie did. At least use the shuttle from space idea to get the symbiote to Earth rather than some dumb fuckin' meteor(which Peter never questions where it came from).
Yep. Spidey 3 was a let down. All I really remember was thinking how long it felt. The film just seemed to go on for ages.
Venom shouldn't have been forced in the movie/Raimi series at all and I think all would've been fine.
I think Sandman should have been the main baddy for 3 with the movie ending in the church with Brock becoming Venom, building up for a part 4...that would have worked comfortably in my book.
^Sandman definitely should've been the main focus, along with the conclusion of the Harry/Peter story arc as the subplot but I don't think Venom should even be in the end and then in the fourth one at all. Raimi just didn't like the character and had no passion for him, so it would be forced either way. I wanted to see 3 focus on what I just said and then the fourth be about Mysterio and finally having the Lizard come around (and obviously possibly be controlled by Mysterio) that would've been amazing...
Mysterio was never going to be apart of the series. Raimi wanted Vulture.

agreed with it really wasn't as bad as people made it out to be, and agreed that it wasn't as good as 1 or 2 for sure, but going back to it now it's still an enjoyable flick I think, still better than a lot of other action or fantasy flicks out there
