STAR TREK: INTO DARKNESS is a fucking blast! It's just as entertaining, action-packed, thrilling, and witty as 2009's STAR TREK. With INTO DARKNESS, director J.J. Abrams has crafted a loving homage to the beloved sci-fi franchise's magnum opus (figure that one out for yourself), all while retaining the energy, spectacle, and freshness of the 2009 reboot. This is the first great summer blockbuster of the year, and it will please fans and non-fans of Star Trek alike. One more thing: Benedict Cumberbatch owns this film, delivering a commanding performance that evokes the work of the legendary Alan Rickman. Go see INTO DARKNESS now!

Should I see HANSEL & GRETEL: WITCH HUNTERS, or should I skip it and wait to rent? I don't know. It's receiving dreadful reviews, but I never allow critics to determine what films I watch or skip. On the one hand, it looks like trashy, Z-grade popcorn entertainment, whereas on the other, it may very well be an abomination of cinema. Who knows? I can't fucking decide! Perhaps I'll wait until I see/read some reviews for it here on MFC.

I'm seeing it Thursday, I'll let you knos

Cochise at 04:51 AM Jan 26

skip it, looks like a dumb cheesy movie that would be an ok watch early in the morning on tv... that's about it.

X-KID at 10:14 PM Jan 26

I'm seeing it in theaters, it looks like fun to me, will let you know.

Until Disney or Lucasfilm confirms the news of J.J. Abrams directing the next STAR WARS film, it's merely a rumor to me. However, if this is true, Abrams will be in charge of both the STAR TREK and STAR WARS franchises, which seems like an impossible task. I'm confident that Abrams can pull it off, though. The Force is strong with this one, and his mission, if he chooses to accept it, will allow him to boldly go where no man has gone before.
Cochise at 11:28 PM Jan 24

haha that last sentence, well done my man well done

X-KID at 10:12 PM Jan 26

It's been confirmed, the issue know is that Abrams hasn't commited to the 2015 release date, that may change if the development process requires it.

I desperately want the Stanley Kubrick Limited Edition Collection Blu-ray set! It's $100 on Amazon, but I can't afford it right now, even though I'm positive it's worth every single penny. I should've bought it when I had the money. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that Amazon will put it on sale sometime this year. Anybody own it???
tbondrage99 at 12:53 AM Jan 20

I bought it the week it came out for the same price. Its a fantastic collection and your right it is worth every penny.

Derek237 at 01:08 AM Jan 20

I own it and it is excellent. It's worth eating only peanut butter sandwiches for a month in order to pay for it.

Mr.Blizzo at 10:08 AM Jan 20

Ohhh yes...worth every penny. Glorious set!

My first celebrity crush is a tie between Carrie Fisher as Princess Leia in STAR WARS and Winona Ryder as Kim in EDWARD SCISSORHANDS.
grelber37 at 10:10 AM Jan 17

Oooooh, look at their two pictures (you enjoy beholding their two images no doubt). You have a type. I found the same when pondering my first celebrity crushes. Having a type is outstanding.

Anyone interested in seeing MAMA? Jessica Chastain stars and Guillermo Del Toro is the producer, both of which are pluses. Still, it might turn out to be another crappy PG-13 horror flick. A trip to the movie theater to see MAMA is still under consideration for me.
Mr.Blizzo at 02:58 AM Jan 16

I'm looking forward to it!

JohnLocke2342 at 03:01 AM Jan 16

yup, definitely checking it out but probably on blu-ray

Beauski at 03:21 PM Jan 16

I dig the actors, so I am cautiously optimistic.

According to DIE HARD's official Facebook page, there's going to be a marathon held on February 13. All four films will be shown, concluding with a 10:00 PM screening of A GOOD DAY TO DIE HARD. One day only. Tickets go on sale on January 17. I'm thinking about going, if only to see the original trilogy on the big screen for the first time.

It would be pretty sweet to see "Die Hard With A Vengeance" on the big screen again.

Mr.Blizzo at 04:55 AM Jan 15

I'd love to see Die Hard on the big screen.

Just saw a TV spot for A GOOD DAY TO DIE HARD, and it's rated R! Consider my ticket bought. And this is coming from someone who still hasn't seen Die Hard 4. I guess I'll have to force myself to finally watch it before February 14. Haha!
Beauski at 07:40 PM Jan 13

I am excited for it now, no yippy ki yay mother bleep this time. lol

YoshioKun13 at 04:37 AM Jan 14

I have not seen DH4 either and will be reluctantly watching it myself too.

Les Miserables

Directed by: Tom Hooper
Written by: William Nicholson
Cast: Russell Crowe, Liam Neeson, Amanda Seyfried, Anne Hathaway, Hugh Jackman, Helena Bonham Carter, Sacha Baron Cohen, Eddie Redmayne
Studio: Universal Pictures
Genre: Drama, Musical
Official Site:
Plot: Set against the backdrop of 19th-century France, LES MISERABLES tells an enthralling story of broken dreams and unrequited love, passion, sacrifice and redemption-a timeless testament to the survival of the human spirit. Jackman plays ex-prisoner Jean Valjean, hunted for decades by the ruthless policeman Javert (Crowe) after he breaks parole. When Valjean agrees to care for factory worker Fantine's (Hathaway) young daughter, Cosette, their lives change forever. (Source: Rotten Tomatoes.)

Before I say anything further, allow me to admit something: Musicals are my least-favorite genre. That's not to say I've never seen a musical that I thoroughly enjoyed. In fact, there have been a handful, including classics like MY FAIR LADY and SINGIN' IN THE RAIN, and contemporary musicals like Rob Marshall's CHICAGO and Tim Burton's SWEENEY TODD. With that said, unless there's a great story or a great ensemble cast behind it, I try to avoid watching musicals, as they are not exactly my cup of tea. I saw LES MISERABLES for its compelling story, adapted from the classic novel by Victor Hugo, and its terrific ensemble cast, and I’m happy to report that I can add this film to my short list of musicals that I thoroughly enjoyed...[more]...

I saw LES MISERABLES on Friday night. Although I'm not a big fan of musicals, I thoroughly enjoyed it! One of the best films of 2012, for sure. I'll probably see it again soon. More thoughts in my review...

Agreed I caught this last night and it really surprised me how much I liked it.

I am so out of touch with music today, I know a few of these but the ones I don't I will give a listen.

VitamanMan8 at 04:48 AM Jan 12

I've only heard 3 of these but I loved all three of them so I guess that means I should check out the rest

YoshioKun13 at 08:35 AM Jan 12

I'm not too familiar with most of these artists, but those are some great album covers.

Universal has just announced a release date for JURASSIC PARK 4: June 13, 2014. Steven Spielberg will produce, but no word on a director yet. The film will be shot in 3-D. I'm stoked about the return of this franchise, even though I didn't care much for the last installment. As long as JP4 doesn't suck or disappoint, I'll be happy. PLEASE make a good film, or if possible, an awesome one! PLEASE hire a better director! PLEASE hire a new cast! (Nothing against the original cast, all of whom I love, but this franchise needs entirely new blood and new characters.) And PLEASE don't let it suck!
Beauski at 11:28 PM Jan 11

I am excited about more Jurassic Park, but am really hoping they have a great story to tell and hire a worthy director.

Strider at 11:36 PM Jan 11

My thoughts exactly! Also, I hope JP4 is longer than the shockingly short 92-minute film JP3 was. If the story's good, substantial, NOT paper-thin, then it will be longer.

I'm not excited about GANGSTER SQUAD anymore. I suppose I'll see it soon enough, but I'm in no hurry to do so. Thankfully, I won't have to see that fucking trailer again. I've seen it like a hundred times. Haha!
YoshioKun13 at 04:23 AM Jan 11

It's been garnering decidedly mixed reactions overall.

Same here. I would've seen it if they released it back in August last year. Now I just don't give a shit. "Zero Dark Thirty" is getting my money this weekend.

It's unfortunate the Academy snubbed Arcade Fire's "Abraham's Daughter" from THE HUNGER GAMES, Karen O's "Strange Love" from FRANKENWEENIE, and Florence + The Machine's "Breath Of Life" from SNOW WHITE & THE HUNTSMAN for Best Original Song. Too bad there's only five spots.
