Just returned from a late-night screening of TRANSFORMERS 3 (I refuse to type out its godawful and completely unnecessary subtitle), and I must say that I was pleasantly surprised. Not only is it a vast improvement over the second installment, which I still believe is an abomination, but it's also a total blast from start to finish. This might be my favorite entry in the series, thus far.
The story is coherent and features less mumbo-jumbo robot mythology. The villain is actually a bad-ass (unlike The Fallen, who was a robotic pussy). The special effects are fucking spectacular, as usual. The performances range from good (e.g., Patrick Dempsey, who I don't like very much, effectively plays a loathesome asshole here) to serviceable to funny (e.g., "The Coen Bros. Trio" of Frances McDormand, John Malkovich, and John Turturro). Lastly, I have two words concerning Rosie Huntington-Whiteley: "Megan Who?!" RHW is smoking hot, gorgeous, has a sexy accent, and she's a much better actress than you-know-who. (I realize that's not saying much at all, but compared to the other infamous Transformers "actress," RHW is Oscar-worthy here.)
Overall, TF3 is solid, over-the-top, bat-shit crazy entertainment that only Michael Bay can deliver and is known for. I can't wait to see this on the IMAX!!!
Note #1: I would kill for a GPS system featuring the voice of the great Leonard Nimoy! Haha! I absolutely LOVE his voice! As he grows older, his voice gets better. The way I see it, there's STAR WARS GPS systems available featuring the voices of Darth Vader and Yoda, so why not some STAR TREK GPS systems featuring the voices of Spock and Kirk? :D
Note #2: Whenever TF4 (you bet your ass Paramount is going to make another installment in the near future) gets the green-light, Alan Tudyk MUST have a larger role. He stole every single scene he appeared in TF3. The audience I watched the film with applauded after every scene he appears in.
