2012 Grammy's: As expected, Adele pulled off a perfect sweep. She won everything. I'm surprised she didn't win for Best Latin Album, Best Dance/Electronic Album, Best Film Score, and Best Spoken Word Album as well. Hahaha! Seriously, though, Adele is a truly amazing singer, and she deserved all those Grammy's. With that said, I'm ecstatic that Bon Iver, Foo Fighters, and The Civil Wars all won major awards tonight.

A second viewing is either sink or swim time for the filmmaker, and QT gets my stamp of approval -- this film floats! Really good audience both times, I think the subtle reveals were easier to handle this time around, the speakeasy scene didn't drag its heels AT ALL. Applause, laughs...good times.

The track I was trying to remember -- when Shosanna "runs into" Landa at the restaurant, the thumping score reminded me of "Ironside" from the Kill Bill movies.

I think the song fit fine...but I think it was odd in a sea of spaghetti western scores and (in one case) funkadelic 70's style music (the Stiglitz scene). I still think the Nastassja Kinski/Melanie Laurent comparison is apt, I wonder if anybody else picked up on the song/actress/movie reference, or I'm just going nuts.

Listening to the soundtrack after the movie, it all fits in pretty well -- especially the Morricone score played over Shosanna and Zoller's final scene. So many good cues, although I think there was one piece that didn't make it on the OST, though I'm darned to remember what scene it was! The movie deserves a rewatch, although I'm kinda nervous that I might be bored during the lengthy stretches. My audience was getting a little antsy during the beginning of "Operation Kino."

You're seeing Coldplay at the Home Depot Center, right? I just found out my sweet sister got an extra ticket for me...it's the first time I've seen a band twice.

I don't know how the concert format will go inside the HDC; I graduated from Dominguez Hills a few years ago inside that complex, but I never thought about ever attending a musical performance. Apparently, Sarah Palin had a rally there last October (the one unfortunate aspect of my having Republican family members ;))

Having heard Arcade Fire's "Wake Up" during the WHERE THE WILD THINGS ARE trailer, I'm thinking of sampling Arcade Fire's other works. Do you have any recommendations on where to start?

Sorry for the delay in response, Strider...ironically, in your query about concerts, I was at a Keane performance last night, thus my lateness. (p.s. they're awesome live, but the Hollywood Paladium is an absolutely horrible venue -- standing only, for four and a half friggin' hours, with opening acts that included such somnambulists as Matt Kearney...I'm falling asleep as I type this!)

As to your question about Weezer, I've only heard of the Weenie Roast, but never been, so my experience was at the Forum. Dunno if Rivers Cuomo will pull the same nifty stunt, but at the particular performance I experienced, he brought up to the stage members of the Weezer fan club, all musicians (talented and less so) to perform a few songs (i.e. Beverly Hills, for one) with their own instruments. I think I saw an accordion, whatever the case it was pretty neat for the band to offer such a melodious olive branch.

Performance wise, it was more a quick "yeah yeah fer kicks" greatest hits compilation of well knowns, mainly focusing on the Red Album. I wouldn't say it was memorable, other than the above mentioned stunt. To be honest, I felt a little detached, and when I feel that way, liking the band or not that I see, I know they exist solely as great on an LP, but less so in real life. So, Weezer...yeah, I wasn't enthused. Funny enough, I saw them in a concert (KROQ sponsored) about eight years ago, and I got more of a buzz when they went through "Hash Pipe" than I did this last time around. Could've been the 100 degree weather roasting my brains, or the flagrant use of pot by the peeps around me.

If you already like Weezer, I'd say it will probably be a good concert. Just don't expect anything thrilling, and if there's anything to take from the concert, it'll probably be the wackos in the crowd.

I've been going to the Nuart, on and off again, for about three years. First film I saw there was Manderlay.

I park on the street right next to the 405 (Sawtelle? I dunno), then just walk around the corner and there it is. I notice they have a parking structure right next to the theater on the corner, but I never venture there.

I was just at the Nuart two weeks ago to see Hunger; sucks about the whole one-week limitation for certain titles, although it's cool to see Che getting a two week run. The lead actor from Hunger, Michael Fassbender, was going to be there at an evening show, but I decided to stick with the (sparsley attended) afternoon time.

Have you ever been in the nearby rental store? They have a decent collection of import all region DVDs and several of those hipster shirts with famous director names on them; Von Trier done in the font of Van Halen, etc.

I actually went on the 14th, not the fifteenth as I so absentmindedly wrote. :D

Good thing it was actually an added show, as I take it last night's show was sold out...so, lucky me. I was a part of the first stop in their tour!

Parking wasn't bad -- I scheduled a drop off/pick up location from a friend, and living about 10 minutes away from the Forum helps. That said, by the time they actually got on stage -- 9:30, two freakin' hours after scheduled start -- I could've caught the entirety of Raw and then mosied on down.

Was Shearwater your opening act? What a rude bunch of Decemberist knock-offs -- they didn't even say who they were, I had to google for info later that evening when I got back. I like the whole Irish/Celtic lilt they got going for themselves, but I just found them forgettable. Actually, the guy playing before them was somebody by the name of Jon Hopkins (?) who serenaded us with a little electronic ambience.

Speaking of that, I was actually contemplating whether or not Coldplay would bring out Brian Eno as their "special guest," but 'twas not to be. Listening to Viva la Vida as an album is nothing compared to the sonic energy pulsating beneath my feet when they started off with "Life in Technicolor" and onwards and upwards.

I thought Chris Martin and the gang were awesome -- I was sitting in the loge section, a hundred feet or so from the main stage, and these are the best seats I've had since being up close and personal with The Killers back in '06. Martin ran past me, I was like 3-5 feet in distance from actually reaching out and giving him a pat on the shoulder. It was nice of him to give Will Champion a chance to sing, amidst a sea of crazed fans (one woman kept jumping up and down and screaming, being led away by security. I assume she gave him a hug)

Every song was rocking, and I loved their finish with "Japan" and the butterfly confetti raining down on us. Did they do that with you? It ended so well that I actually DIDN'T want an encore...

I still hold The Killers as my favorite group to see live, for reasons not unknown. :D Coldplay and Muse -- tied for second.

What has your crappiest concert experience been? Not in terms of something going wrong, but a bad that sounds good on CD but terrible live? Maroon 5, for me.

Well, Lindsey, if you're disappointed by the final four episodes of "The Sopranos," perhaps you can track down David Chase and force him to do a seventh season or a feature film. ;)

Thanks, man. Speaking of "Spider-Man 3," I'll seeing it tonight at midnight. And I know what you mean about the wait. I'm dying to see Venom on the silver screen. I hope Sam Raimi does the character justice.
