I picked this one up just in time for Halloween, and what a movie! This is easily one of Tim Burton's darkest films, with a stunningly beautiful gothic atmosphere permeating every frame of the film. From the dark, monochromatic cinematography, the twisty trees, thick fog, the sets and costumes, You could literally freeze each frame of the DVD and hang it on your wall. Truly a work of artistic beauty.
The actors involved are also all terrific, especially the reliable Johnny Depp, whose Ichabod is a slightly awkward, nervous, and emotionally tortured character. I really can't see anyone else in this role. He is complimented by Christina Ricci, who is as charming as can be in this film. I especially appreciated the chemistry between she and Depp.
As if that weren't enough, there is plenty of suspense as well as a nice helping of blood and lots of rolling heads! I really think this ranks among the best of Tim Burton, and is a perfect compliment to his equally brilliant NIGHTMARE BEFORE CHRISTMAS. Rest assured, I will be watching this one again on Halloween night!
