Million Dollar Baby

2004-million_dollar_baby-1

Directed by: Clint Eastwood
Written by: Paul Haggis
Cast: Clint Eastwood, Hilary Swank, Morgan Freeman
Studio: Warner Bros
Genre: Drama
Official Site: www.milliondollarbabymovie.net
Plot: Weathered boxing trainer Frankie Dunn (Clint Eastwood) loses his best fighter right before he wins the championship, but an eager female boxer named Maggie Fitzgerald (Hilary Swank) asks him to take her under his wing. Although he refuses to train "girls," his long-time friend and gym custodian Eddie (Morgan Freeman) convinces him to help her out, creating an inseparable bond between the three.

Review:

Released in 2005 to critical acclaim, Million Dollar Baby premiered with nary any prerelease hype. The film went on to be nominated for 7 Oscars and ended up winning 4 of them, one for Best Picture of 2005. However, the Academy who hands out these awards is not right all too often and many times they snub more deserving films out of the big award, but is it possible that they were correct this time...[more]...

Thus begins a terrifying experience where the teens are taken to a secluded house of horrors, where a young, would-be killer is being nurtured.

Review:

Three years ago we were presented with a remake of the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Some fans loved it, some hated it. Those who loved it felt it was a breath of fresh air in a dying genre and series. Those who hated it felt it was an abomination to not only this series, but to horror itself. But here we have a prequel to that remake and it has an uphill battle the whole way...[more]...

Review:

When this movie was released in theaters last Christmas I never got around to seeing it. I had heard good things about it but missed it. Then it came out on DVD. I got it but since right now I'm in a DVD watching recession (I dont have enough time to watch all the new DVDs I have so I'm behind like, 12 DVDs I need to see. I buy but dont watch right away) and a friend saw it before me and said it was absolutely awful. I got kind of nervous but then a MUCH more reliable friend had said earlier when he saw it that it was awesome. My worries were somewhat put to rest but I couldnt shake something. I decided to pop it in last night and hope for the best...[more]...

V for Vendetta

Directed by: James McTeigue
Written by: Andy Wachowski, Larry Wachowski, Hilary Henkin
Cast: Natalie Portman, Hugo Weaving, Stephen Rea, John Hurt
Studio: Warner Bros
Genre: Thriller
Official Site: www.vforvendetta.com
Plot: A shadowy freedom fighter known only as "V" uses terrorist tactics to fight against his totalitarian society. Upon rescuing a girl from the secret police, he also finds his best chance at having an ally. That's all I'm going to go into for plot details.

Review:

All I have to say is WOW! What a great great movie. This truly is an important movie. I've never read any of the graphic novels this is based on, so this is a review after a virgin viewing. I love this movie, plain and simple. Hugo Weaving is V and he plays the part amazingly well. Even though V's face is never shown, it doesn't need to be. Weaving uses mannerisms and has such a great voice, that sometimes you forget that it's even a mask. Natalie Portman is wonderful as well as Evey. Both of them have such a great chemistry together and it's always great when they're on screen. The rest of the cast is wonderful as well (John Hurt is amazing as well even though he's not in it all that much...[more]...

Superman Returns

2006-superman_returns-1

Directed by: Bryan Singer

Cast: Brandon Routh, Kevin Spacey, Kate Bosworth, James Marsden, Frank Langella, Parker Posey, Kal Penn, Eva Saint Marie, Sam Huntington
Studio: Warner Bros
Genre: Action
Official Site: www.supermanreturns.com
Plot: After a long visit to the lost remains of the planet Krypton, the Man of Steel returns to earth to become the peoples savior once again and reclaim the love of Lois Lane. Thats all Im going to go into for plot because its best to go into this movie knowing pretty much no more than that.

Review:

I don't like Superman. There, I said it. I dont like him. To me, hes boring and uninteresting. His only weakness is a rock (what, is he a crack head? He freaks out when hes around rocks), big deal. As you all know, Spideys my kind of hero. He has problems and is more human than Supes (ok, besides the fact that hes an alien!). But, after finally seeing the first two movies and now this, my opinion of the Man of Steel has changed...[more]...

Snakes on a Plane

2006-snakes_on_a_plane-1

Directed by: David R. Ellis
Written by: Sheldon Turner
Cast: Samuel L. Jackson, Julianna Margulies, David Koechner, Kenan Thompson, Rachel Blanchard
Studio: New Line Cinema
Genre: Thriller
Official Site: www.snakesonaplanemovie.com
Plot: The story is very simple: There are Snakes on a Plane. Ok, there is more to it than that (but not that much). On board a flight over the Pacific Ocean, an assassin, bent on killing a passenger who's a witness in protective custody, lets loose a crate full of deadly snakes. That’s as deep as this movie goes but it doesn’t matter; it’s so much damn fun that you don’t care how shallow the plotline is.

Review:

It’s finally here. After waiting practically all year, Snakes on a Plane has finally been released. One of the most hyped movies of the summer has arrived but almost everyone expects it to be a failure of biblical proportions but, is it possible that it just may be good...[more]...

Review:

Plot: Legend has it that a tortured soul called Davy Jones lives beneath the sea, his still-beating broken heart locked away in a chest, and a terrible sea beast at his command. Unfortunately for the notorious pirate, Captain Jack Sparrow, this particular legend is very real. Years ago, Jack made a deal with Davy Jones, who is now expecting him to make good on his promise by handing himself over to Jones's servitude. But Jack will not give in without a fight, which is especially bad news for Will Turner and Elizabeth Swann, who always seem to get caught up in Jack's mishaps. If Jack can't find a way to rid himself of Davy Jones once and for all, it may just spell the end for the three adventurers.

Review:

Here we are, the second installment in the ever popular Pirates of The Caribbean trilogy, Dead Mans Chest. Lets get right to it, I loved this movie. I enjoyed the first one a great deal so I had very high hopes and expectations for the sequel. Gore Verbinski has most definitely not let me down, in fact, he blew them away...[more]...

Open Water

2004-open_water-1

Directed by: Chris Kentis
Written by: Chris Kentis
Cast: Blanchard Ryan, Daniel Travis, Saul Stein, Estelle Lau
Studio: Lions Gate Films
Genre: Horror
Official Site: www.openwatermovie.com
Plot: A young thirty something couple goes on holiday to the Caribbean. One of the fun activities open to them is scuba diving off a reef several miles out. Due to a faulty head count taken by the dive boat crew, the couple is left behind in the open ocean. They find themselves drifting endlessly for hours on end, facing dehydration, saltwater sickness, jellyfish stings, and the most frightening menace - sharks! Based on a true story from the South Pacific.

Review:

Most likely youve heard of Open Water. It was heavily advertised when it came out in August 2004. There was a ton of hype surrounding this movie, many claiming it to be the greatest shark and water movie since Jaws. It was said to make you even more afraid of the water than Jaws did to some people but the question remains, does it live up to the hype...[more]...

Cast: Tony Jaa, Petchthai Wongkamlao, Pumwaree Yodkamol, Rungrawee Borrijindakul, Chetwut Wacharakun
Studio: Magnolia Pictures
Genre: Action
Official Site: www.ongbakmovie.com
Plot: The plot to this movie is very very simple. When the head of a statue sacred to a village is stolen, a young martial artist goes to the big city and finds himself taking on the underworld to retrieve it. That's it. It's almost paper thin but it doesnt matter cause if you pick this movie up, you aren't doing so for a deep plot.

Review:

I've been eyeing this film ever since it discreetly came onto the DVD scene last August, odds are you've never heard of it till now. I had heard about it online. I cant remember exactly where but I remember reading about the awesome action scenes and if you know me, I'm a sucker for big, awesome action scenes, particularly ones that involve intense moves being performed...[more]...

Review:

To me, this movie always gave me the same feeling as The Godfather; that it was a complete bore. I thought everything about it was boring. I remember one time it was on TV and I flipped to it and I was bored immediately and I proceeded to change the channel. That was not all that long ago so why do I love this film now...[more]...

Review:

Review:

When this movie was first announced I didn't give a damn, it meant nothing to me, it was just another remake. I never saw the original and never really wanted to. Then the trailers for this came out. I still wasn't impressed. The CGI looked pretty bad and it just didn't look that exciting or good. Then a couple of days before its release I watched some clips over at Yahoo! Movies. After those clips I was officially excited for this movie. Then came the big problem, I didn't think I'd get to see it because of the busy holiday season coming up...[more]...

Cast: Aaron Stanford, Ted Levine, Kathleen Quinlan, Vinessa Shaw, Emilie de Ravin, Dan Byrd, Robert Joy, Ezra Buzzington
Studio: Fox Searchlight Pictures
Genre: Horror
Official Site: www.foxsearchlight.com/thehillshaveeyes/
Plot: This film follows the Carters, an idyllic American family traveling through the great American southwest. But their trip takes a detour into an area closed off from the public, but more importantly from society. An area originally used by the U.S. Government for nuclear testing that was intended to be empty...or so they thought? When the Carter's car breaks down at the old site, they're stranded...or are they? As the Carters may soon realize that what seemed like a car casually breaking down, might actually be a trap. This trap might be perpetrated by the inhabitants of the site who aren't pulling a prank, but are out to set up a gruesome massacre.

Review:

Another remake. We've seen so many of them recently and have been disappointed by most of them. Only a few, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Dawn of The Dead, have been good. No surprise here though that we have another one. This time it's Wes Craven's The Hills Have Eyes...[more]...

Review:

This British horror film from Neil Marshall is a true horror classic. I know that line has been thrown around a lot in reference to this film as of lately but I’m just reaffirming that it isn’t an over exaggeration, it’s the whole truth. It truly is the best of it’s kind since Alien...[more]...

Written by: Mark Neveldine, Brian Taylor
Cast: Jason Statham, Amy Smart, Efren Ramirez, Dwight Yoakam
Studio: Lions Gate Films
Genre: Thriller
Official Site: www.crankfilm.com
Plot: Chev Chelios (Statham) learns that a poison injected into his body will kill him if his heart rate drops slows a certain point. Now he must exact his revenge on the people who injected him before he takes his last breath. Basically, this plays out like Speed on foot, but more frantic.

Review:

This movie sort of came out of nowhere. All of a sudden trailers were released and TV spots were shown without much of a warning. It looked to be reminiscent of Transporter 2 in the sense that it looked like an all-out action movie (with Jason Statham). However, Crank is a completely different animal than the aforementioned movie or any other movie released this year for that matter. First time directors Mark Nedveldine and Brian Taylor relentlessly bash you over the head with the action hammer and boy does it feel great...[more]...
