Review:

After some early buzz, the hype surrounding this film became huge, but unfortunately it doesnt deliver. Besides a few isolated scenes, Kick-Ass barely ever kicks ass. Most of the film focuses on a boring and predictable high school romance based on, yet, another annoying misunderstanding, and then also some unoriginal clumsy bad guys we've seen in hundreds of movies before...[more]...

«Sometimes I wonder if I've changed so much my wife is even going to recognize me, whenever it is that I get back to her. And how I'll ever be able to tell her about days like today. Ah, Ryan. I don't know anything about Ryan. I don't care. The man means nothing to me. It's just a name. But if... You know if going to Ramelle and finding him so that he can go home. If that earns me the right to get back to my wife, then that's my mission.»...[more]...

«Well, I've flown seven million miles. And I've been waiting on people almost 20 years. The best job I could get after my bust was Cabo Air, which is the worst job you can get in this industry. I make about sixteen thousand, with retirement benefits that ain't worth a damn. And now with this arrest hanging over my head, I'm scared. If I lose my job I gotta start all over again, but I got nothing to start over with. I'll be stuck with whatever I can get. And that shit is scarier than Ordell.»...[more]...

12 Monkeys

1995-twelve-monkeys-poster1

Directed by: Terry Gilliam
Written by: Chris Marker, David Webb Peoples
Cast: Bruce Willis, Madeleine Stowe, Brad Pitt, Christopher Plummer, Jon Seda, Joseph Melito
Studio: Universal Pictures
Genre: Drama, Sci-Fi, Thriller
Official Site:
Plot:

Review:

The Cassandra syndrome is when you [think you] know about the future but no one believes you. It is a recurrent theme in science-fiction, often comes along with time travel. In Twelve Monkeys the main character comes to believe he may not really know about the future, that is crazy, as everyone else suggest.

Inspired by the extraordinary short film La jetés from the 60's, by experimental filmmaker Chris Marker, Twelve Monkeys is a complex and clever story of confusion and possible delusion. Even if you can make out the actual plot and story, Terry Gilliam's film, will keep you wondering, even after multiple viewings. It is very detailed, violent and its an opportunity for Gilliam to showcase his unique storytelling ability once again.

Bruce Willis can act. He really can, and he proves it here, having to be more than just another version of John McClane. He creates doubt about his character, his possible delusion, which is part of the fascination this film offers. Madeleine Stowe is solid and Brad Pitt does some of his best acting of his career. The score is creepy enough and the cinematography is complementary. This is a great example of science-fiction not needing big visual effects to astound.

Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen

2009-transformers_revenge_of_the_fallen-1

Cast: Shia LaBeouf, Megan Fox, Rainn Wilson, Tyrese, Josh Duhamel, Isabel Lucas
Studio: Paramount Pictures
Genre: Action
Official Site: www.transformersmovie.com
Plot:

Review:

I think I stopped having faith in Michael Bay two years ago, when I saw Transformers. I wonder why it took me so long, after all the man is responsible for such disastrous movies as Armageddon, Pearl Harbor and Bad Boys II, but I thought, maybe if he stays away from Jerry Bruckheimer things would be different. He almost proved me right with The Island which wasnt great, nor good, but it wasnt that bad either. Two years later, he is back with another Transfomers flick, his baby, and I went expecting to hate it. He proved me right for good this time...[more]...

Inglourious Basterds

2009-inglourious_basterds-1

Directed by: Quentin Tarantino
Written by: Quentin Tarantino
Cast: Brad Pitt, Diane Kruger, Mélanie Laurent, Christoph Waltz, Daniel Brühl, Eli Roth, Samm Levine, B.J. Novak, Til Schweiger, Julie Dreyfus, Michael Fassbender, Mike Myers, Cloris Leachman
Studio: The Weinstein Co.
Genre: Drama, War
Official Site: www.inglouriousbasterds-movie.com
Plot:

Review:

Inglourious Basterds isnt as much a war movie as it is a love letter to cinema. Tarantino has based his career solely on refering his favorite movies and filmmakers, but with his latest opus, he goes even further. Basterds is filled with movie references, which he doesnt need to shove down our throat like he did with Death Proof, but also a movie theatre, actors and a film critic turned soldier are part of the plot. He even manages to include a small documentary bit about the type of film used to shoot movies back then...[more]...
