Star Trek Into Darkness was sharp, energetic sci-fi that never alienates it's audience. It's a roller coaster ride that never sacrifices character for thrills, but finds a strong balance. I felt that Abrams, more than anything, has solidified his brand as the fun Spielberg that checked out years ago. He has the pulse of the event picture down to a formula.

I thought The Dark Knight Rises was a beautifully flawed film. Epic, clunky, cool, choppy, powerful, and rousing. Great to see that Nolan could recapture the magic, however he wasn't able to topple it. It's the weakest of the three, but that's not really a bad thing, because Nolan's weakest is still grade A entertainment. Don't be deterred! GO SEE IT!

Ice Age: Continental Drift. It's...an Ice Age movie. I never tried to cut my throat and my kid loved it, so I'm calling this a win.

liked the first three but this one looks surprisingly dull...

I like it better than the first, but think the second and third are still the best.

Crushing news at the loss of Sage Stallone. My heart goes out to Sly, who has always stood out as a very loving father and all-around good guy. I couldn't imagine losing a child. Sad news and my deepest condolences.

Caught Get the Gringo last night in my hotel. Totally fun romp and exactly the kind of film I want to see Mel Gibson in. It's almost like a sequel to Payback set many years later...and in a Mexican prison. Not a classic, but a hell of a lot of fun.

and the context is actually based somewhat in real life you know? My grandma lived close to that prison haha

Savages was a damn good time. Not perfect, not as gritty or realistic as I'd hoped, but still a ton of fun with some genuinely cool moments. I wouldn't say it's Oliver Stone at his best, but it's leagues beyond his worst. Kitsch and Del Toro own the film.

can't wait, hopefully seeing it in the next couple days. Looks like the perfect appetizer for Ex2

It's light on action, but that doesn't hurt the film, IMO. It's still a compelling watch from beginning to end. People WILL disagree with me, but I dug it.

Playing movie catch up this week...Abe Lincoln, Savages, and maybe, just maybe, that fucking Spider-Man movie, just to see what the hell is going on...

Super stoked to see Savages sometime next week, and looking forward to catching Abe Lincoln whenever I get the chance, big fan of Timur and I heard from around here that it's really fun. Saw the new Spidey and was pretty disappointed, should've waited til blu-ray but I did get free tickets so it wasn't a loss, hope you dig it if you decide to take the dive

I decided to skip the Drive-In tonight after a day in 102 or better temps. I'll catch Spider-Man 2nd time at The Ritz tomorrow night.

Seems like Savages is pissing people off with a "dual" ending. I'm definitely intrigued to see what the fuss is about. I love Timur's work and read the Abe Lincoln book and the score by Henry Jackman is phenomenal.

I'm only entertaining the idea of seeing Spidey because so many people are praising it to the high heavens. Although, there seem to be many saying it's shit, too. I may well find out...

Brian Aubert and Nikki Monninger of Silversun Pickups...from concert on 7/5

They rocked Lazy Eye and Panic Switch, which was heavily featured in the trailers for Suckerpunch. It was definitely the highlight song of the night.

Looks like either a couple of Gibson or Epiphone guitar/bass in action.

He switched guitars after every song and segued from song to song, never taking a break. Pretty amazing.

I am resisting like hell, but it's almost like I have to confirm whether it's actually really good or it's a bunch of folks desperately trying to like it. Fuck! I hate when this happens...

Watched London Boulevard this weekend on NF. A lot of William Monahan's signature dialogue and situations, but not quite "The Departed" level of awesome. Still, a worthy watch with a great performance from Colin Farrell and another slimy villain from Ray Winstone.

My wife is going to see Magic Mike with her "book club" tonight, even though there isn't a book about it. How the hell does that work? I will stay home and watch a clothed Channing Tatum in 21 Jump Street.
