Doom Generation (1995)
"Sometimes I feel like the city is sucking away at my soul." I felt the same way about this movie. This was, I guess you could say a "road movie" staring Rose McGowan as Amy Blue a person everybody seems to know for some reason. Her boyfriend Jordan White played by James Duval is a very understanding and easy going guy. Amy and Jordan meet a guy named Xavier one night who is all kinds of fun. I understand this movie is trying to be different and it's coming straight out of the gate declaring itself Cult but it just seems like mess to me.
Jordan and Amy don't have any money to pay for their Slurpees so the nice ampm manager pulls a shotgun on them. Xavier comes to the rescue and saves the day by blowing the head off the nice ampm guy. Now X is apart of this "road trip" that doesn't go anywhere but the sheets. There is a lot of fucking, some violent encounters and a message that is nowhere to be found other than 'fuck it'.
Now I'm not one to hate on Cult films but this one just has too weak of a story to be considered a good Cult film. I would consider this a 'good try' I loved Greg's "Smiley Face(2007)" to death so I know he is can direct, perhaps he was still honing his style here. I loved the cameo from Parker Posey, samurai sword and all. Bottom line I can't hate this film but I do dislike it. I probably wouldn't watch it again other than to sneak a peek at Rose's perfect breasts. I can say this about the film, I never see a guy masturbate onto his own hand and then lick it off until now.
