The Auteur (2008)
"And in the story it is when you realize who you really are you will realize why you are here and that's when you will pull out and cum on her face." Melik Malkasian stars as Arturo Domingo "The Kubrick of porn". Arturo is a filmmaker who has been losing his edge and is trying to get back on top. Arturo is also trying to win back his ex-wife and get some of his inspiration back. He lost his main actor 'his muse' to another porn company because people can't put up with his artistic dominance and they just don't want to be around him.
Melik Malkasian's accent was so funny and brilliant he really did an excellent job bringing this character to life. I loved the fact that this was shot in my home town of Portland Oregon it looked great, especially the hippie commune. Another thing where the hell are all these beautiful women? I need to get out more.
This movie was super funny and very entertaining. This film may be masked as satire but it has a really good and entertaining story. If you like indie comedies you'll love this.

HappyWorld's Greatest Dad (2009)
"I used to think the worst thing in life was to end up all alone. It's not. The worst thing in life is ending up with people who make you feel all alone." World's Greatest Dad Stars Robin Williams as Lance Clayton a struggling writer and a struggling dad. Lance teaches a poetry class that is on the virge of being canceled and he couldn't feel less important about his life, oh wait yes he could, he has a girlfriend played by Morgan Murphy who is also a teacher and she works very hard at keeping their relationship hidden. She also has "male friends" who she shows a great deal of compassion towards as if Lance needs that. This also stars the very funny Daryl Sabara as Kyle. Kyle is a complete dick to everybody and everything he comes in contact with, even his friend. He dies in an accident while masturbating so his dad tries to spare Kyle the humiliation and stages the whole thing to look like a suicide. Lance sits down a writes a very deep suicide note and it gets him the recognition that he's always wanted as a writer.
Bobcat Goldthwiet writes and directs this film and he did a very great job, I didn't even know he was a director. I especially liked his little cameo in the film. Robin Williams is always great as the 'teacher type' Daryl Sabara's pissed off comedy had me laughing my ass off and when he was gone and everybody was pretending that he was this deep individual I was laughing even harder. Watching this felt like I was in on some big secret and everybody else was delusional and blinded by lies. I really loved the scene when Lance went on that talk show, I couldn't stop laughing.
There were a few parts that seemed to be overdoing it a little too much in order to get their point across such as the scene when the other teachers were all talking together about Mike getting published in The New yorker, seemed a bit much. I thought this had great direction, great comedy and an extremely great story. Well done Bobcat.

Chillin'The House of Yes (1997)
"Sorry about that, by the way, I didn't mean to maim you. I only meant to kill you." The House of Yes is an unapologetic Dark Comedy and I absolutely love it for that. Parker Posey gives one of her best performances. Posey stars as 'Jackie-O' a very mixed up and troubled young lady who has been having an incestuous relationship with her brother Marty played by Josh Hamilton. Marty and his fiancée Lesly played by Tori Spelling arrive on a stormy night to have thanksgiving dinner with Marty's family. Jackie-O doesn't know who Marty is bringing to dinner and immediately there is a bigger storm brewing inside than there is outside.
Jackie-O let's her jealousy for Marty's fiancée be know right away and she is all over Lesly in a battle of wits and words. Parker Posey's dialog and delivery of that dialog is nothing short amazing, she just destroys Lesly in a very comedic way. I loved the stormy atmosphere in which this night takes place, it just gave the film this very close feeling. I also liked Geneviève Bujold's performance as Mrs. Pascal she had some very comical dialog as well.
The story is rather simple but it's the dialog and the performances that make this something very unique. Dark Comedy is my favorite genre and this is definitely going in my top twenty comedies of all-time. If you're a fan of Dark Comedy and films that walk their own paths then this one is a must see.
