I felt it was dramatically weak. Langella was so awesome on Broadway and I think Badham was more interested in the look of the film then the characters or drama. That music video style love scene was awful. Some nice unexpected gore, though and the film did look good. I actually should revisit this, it's been a long time since I saw it.

I can understand the love scene, but all together I thought the film worked. The oppressive gothic atmosphere really worked for me. I haven't seen him on Broadway, but I loved Langella in this film. I really think he brought out aspects of the character that hadn't really been shown until his portrayal. I also love the chemistry the cast shares.

Fuck, I'm going to have to review this really soon.

the film had me hooked on the song , a couple of years later , Ashley Brooks was using it in her ..um ... dance routine ... then I was totally hooked .
