Dumb Bitches and Ignorance

I recently checked out a video that Derek237 posted and I honestly couldn't stop myself from posting what I thought about it. The video was about two little white girls talking a lot of racist shit.

Now, I am not someone that will speak out against racism at the drop of the hat. Why? Because it would be redundant. Do I feel the need to apologize to all of my black friends because of what happened to them before I was born? Hell no I don't and they don't expect me to either. As far as I'm concerned, we're good.

But to hear these girls hate induced speech is just fucking appalling. The sad thing is, I don't blame these girls, not entirely, I blame their parents. They are too damn young to have formulated these opinions all on their own. I'm not going to judge them though, they've got that coming from far better people than me.

What I do want to bring up is a story that this made me think of. I know most of you realize I'm former Army and some of you know more than others about that. Well, I want to tell a story from the one year I was "On the Trail." A drill Sargent for those that don't know.

I was only on the trail for a year, but the first group of raw recruits I will always remember best. There were two privates that had some serious racial issues. One was black, the other white. On the first day, we saw that they weren't going to get along with anyone not their color so we came up with the perfect solution. We made them battle buddies.

For those of you not in the know, "Battle Buddies" are what we call every two people in training. People are teamed together to help each other get through the training. Every two people are teamed together. If one of them fails, they both fail. We do this for good reason. If you can't rely on your buddy in combat, you will die. Plain and simple.

Well, these two did NOT get along for awhile to say the least. It wasn't until we(the other DS's and I) came up with an idea that would force their hands, so to speak. I told them that at no point, unless they were training, were they not to be holding each other's hand. I didn't care if it was marching, polishing their boots, or in class(yes, there is classes in basic training in the Army).

It worked.

The two of them realized they had to rely on one another to get through the shit we were throwing at them. And they fucking did it. To this day, I get letters from one of them thanking me for that.

The reason I don't get letters from the other? He died after pushing a buddy of his, a black man, out of the way of an IED blast. He received a Bronze Star from that. Posthumously.

My point is simple. We may have different color skin, but we all bleed red.

Hooah.

What's a shame is you had to use force to break down the color barrier, but not so most anywhere else. It has to be taught and passed on through generations to stop this learned behavior. Such a day, that we in our lifetime or even the lifetimes of our grandchildren, will not see. Thanks for sharing a personal part of your life.

Yeah, I was kind of debating with myself whether or not to post the video because it was so bad and already incited a lot of hate but now I'm kind of glad I did because I enjoyed reading this and really appreciate you sharing. Some people you just can't seem to reach when it comes to racist, ignorant, straight-up dumb-ass bigotry (I think I heard about a study that proved within a good margin of error that people with racist tendencies are commonly less intelligent too so there's that). A story like this though, is not only inspiring but it's enough to give you a thread of hope that maybe someday our species will evolve enough to a point where race isn't an inflammatory issue.
