Books I'm Reading Right Now (Yes, all at once because I am a goddamn psycho)
1. I Shall Wear Midnight by Terry Pratchett (The last of the Wee Free Men adventures, an AMAZING series)
2. Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children by Ransom Riggs (sad but really good so far)
3. Fablehaven:Book One (just cracked this open yesterday)
4. The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins (I fought this forever, but I have such a soft spot for dystopian novels)
5. The Gates by John Connolly (an early birthday gift from my husband, he hunted it down for me)
6. The Color of Magic by Terry Pratchett (another random gift, I get a lot of them as he works for B&N)
7. The Wind in the Willows by Kenneth Grahame (re-reading this to my son for the 9th time)
8. Next up: the rest of Fablehaven series, Hunger Games series and The Gates series, with maybe a re-read of The Graveyard Book
@cookie, yay Im extra excited now! The Graveyard Book is always so comfortable to get into, like re-reading HP, and also like HP, the ending is so so sad.

I got like 4-5 novels at various stages of completion not including tpb's and stuff AND I just got volume 1 of the TMNT omnibus's that came out this year and the first omnibus of Jason Aaron's Wolverine run and Hellboy library edition volume 4... yuuuuup
I have 1 and 2 of the Hellboy volumes. I almost hefted one to a Mike Mignola signing, but the guy already thinks Im crazy as Ive brought multiple posters, moleskines and amigurumi to him to sign. /fangirl

So my kid is obsessed with the Titanic. Gets every book on it from the library, looks at pictures on Google, etc. Now, the movie has some amazing scenes of the design and engineering (his big interests) but is it too sad/gross/romantic/boringasfuck for a 1st grader? (Granted, he's not exactly an average 1st grader...) Id hate to censor a movie for length...thoughts? BRING IT. (or dont, whatever, its time for Iron Chef anyway)
If you don't want to suffer through Titanic, and I could not be more sympathetic, there are a slew of Titanic documentaries released since the movie that focus on engineering and the plans and design. Ghosts of the Abyss, as ericodarko suggested, is one of the better ones for Titanic fanatics.
There's a TV version with Catherine Zeta-Jones but it's just as long, maybe longer. I can't remember if there's sex scenes though. I don't know much about what your son can understand but the part where the guy explains what happened to it on the computer might interest him. If you had the VHS's you could just put the second one it, it starts right when the Titanic hits the iceberg.

I've been avoiding getting Deathly Hallows pt 2. I just...can't. It's not like the other times when its like "omg cant wait to watch it again!" Once was enough for a long time. /emofangirlrant
Depressing, really. There's no more "omg what does this mean?" and scurrying to the internet and the books for clues. Reminding me of my own mortality and all that debbie downer horseshit.
