I'm assuming by the picture that it means you would kill them... but the way you worded it, it just sounds like you want to have nasty sex with them. And the picture leads to that interpretation as well.

QUENTIN at 02:07 PM Sep 27

Vitaman - it's a play on three lists made by women on MFC with the same subject title. That's why it sounds sexual. I figured the picture of a dungeon indicated torture not sex, but I'll now be sure not to inquire about your sex life ;).

This would make a better horror movie than hacks like Eli Roth will ever make.

damn it man, la danse was the last movie i projected in baltimore before i moved to l.a. and i never got a chance to see it. i guess i shouldn't have judged the book by its cover. either way thanks for the recommendations. i was looking forward to the red riding trilogy, but i've been hearing more and more negative things. Girl with the Dragon Tattoo is quite good (if a bit long), so is The Eclipse (i think its u.s. release is a 2010)

QUENTIN
QUENTIN at 01:51 PM Mar 26

My roommate loved Red Riding and it's mostly had good reviews, I've heard 1980 is the best of them but I'm not sure I'll give it a chance. I just thought the first 90 minutes of '74 were really boring, poorly written, had a bland protagonist, and a ridiculous number of scenes that inexplicably ended in sex (funny, but...doesn't really work in a gritty drama going for bleak realism). The end gets a little better, but it's hard to suddenly care when I'd spent so long being disinterested and waiting for it to be over with. I didn't see what the fuss was about besides the cool idea of 3 connected films simultaneously made by 3 different filmmakers. I'd chalk it up to a failed experiment based on the first.

I made a crack about La Danse when I saw the trailer a month or two back...until I saw it was directed by Wiseman, yet to tackle any subject he didn't transform into something endlessly watchable. Ballet would bore me to tears, his film about the diverse group of people who come together and work their asses off to maintain a centuries old institution is just fascinating. Hope you get a chance to see it at some point and best of luck in L.A.

thanks for the wishes quent. i'll likely give the trilogy a shot down the road, at least the first from the sound of it, for curiosities sake. i'm completely with you on ballet, it's not exactly a preforming art i'm crazy about. though i think the best movies/docs that are heavy in a particular sport or activity are usually by filmmakers who are more interested in the characters and behaviors, like scrosese and raging bull (who didn't care for boxing) or altman and nashville (who didn't care for country music). not that i question Wiseman's attraction to ballet, but from the sound of it it seems like its about so much more.

have a blast with Linklater tonight!

as expected, an excellent list. Seeing Up in the Air as your number one with a perfect score makes me shiver with antici---pation (yeah, goofy reference). Haven't seen The Garden yet either, will keep an eye out.

I've been dying to see many of these, but they haven't been showing near me. (Complex, In the Loop, A Serious Man) I suppose I should give the Garden a watch on the Netflix instant queue.

Also, I'm glad you enjoyed the Road as much as I did... I feel like it was about as good of an adaptation as we could have hoped for.
