Set 13 years after the first one, this sequel has a much different tone than the first one. Becoming more of a dark comedy than a serious slasher, which may be a disappointment to some, but is like Christmas to sickos like me who find it to be absolutely hilarious.
But there are some genuinely jumping moments, notably when the shit goes down at the radio station. There aren't as many victims in this one, or as many kills really. But still delivers a fair amount of gore and disturbing images.
But even with fewer victims this one still manages to be one of the most twisted movies I've ever seen, matching and almost overpassing the bizarre factor of the original. You have heads cut in half, guys repeatedly beaten in the face with hammers, guys playing with dead bodies, one guy is skinned alive, his face scraped off and forced over a woman's face as Leatherface dances with her. This shit is sick, but not without some good laughs.
And then you have Dennis motherfuckin' Hopper. When I heard he was in this I thought he was probably going to be part of the Hewitt/Sawyer family. You know, one of the villains. But he's actually the hero, the vengeful uncle of Sally and Franklin who's out to rip apart the cooky cannibal clan. And though he isn't a baddie, he's still almost as nuts as them, which you would probably have to be to take them on.
BOTTOM LINE: I loved it. It's hard to compare to the first one because there is such a difference in tone. The one is paralyzes in fear as this one tickles the funny bone for fans of black humor. Dueling chainsaws between Dennis Hopper and Leatherface? Dennis Hopper with a chainsaw in each hand? Hell yes! This movie kicks ass!

Excellent review man, I agree 100%! And yes OMG the radio station scene. I know the movie does definitely lean heavily to a comedic side but that scene makes me jump. EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. Ugh and Badass D-Hop, we need more of that in our lives. RIP legend.
