Love Tales from the Crypt, love the Crypt Keeper, love Billy Zane, Dwight...I mean William Sadler and Dick Miller. But I've never really gotten into this one as much as others have. I do enjoy the effects , the gore and the look of those demon things and they do freak the hell out of me. Blasting ray beam from your eyes is always awesome. But overall, I've just never seen what was so special about it.
Billy Zane is...well....Billy Zane. And I don't have to tell you how awesome Billy Zane was as a villain. He covers his devious ways behind his charm and charisma, I also get a laugh at how young Thomas Haden Church looks in this. Hard to separate him from his Sideways role I guess. Oh and there's also a cameo by Pornstar Chasey Lain. So props for that.
But I'm not just not really a fan of Jada Picket Fence, much less the character she played. So maybe that's why I've never really been too keen on the ending. I don't know, I guess I just don't find the story all that interesting. The simple cat and mouse game and the story behind the key was ok, but really just ran dry for me way too soon.
BOTTOM LINE: It's ok. Never been all that big on this one for some reason. Even though Billy Zane was in it, and was a marvelous villain, and the effects were great, I've never seen what was so special about this one. But I'd still have to recommend it, because a lot of other people seem to really dig it.
