This one kicks off with not only the best opening scenes in the franchise, but one of my favorites of the entire genre. Taking it back to the Child's Play roots, we view things from the POV of something small, and something deadly. It grabs a butcher knife, prowls through the house, killing each family member one at a time. Is it Chucky? Tiffany? Leprechaun? STOP!....it was all a dream. WHAT?!? Yeah. And whoever is having this kick-ass dream is.....pissing their pants?
That's when this movie becomes just plain weird. So who the fuck is this wet dreamer? It turns out that it's some soft spoken little sissypants named "Shithead", who is forced to act in a ventriloquist scam. It would seem that it's Chucky and Tiffany's child that popped out at the end of Bride of Chucky, right? But it can't be! This kid almost sounds like Michael Jackson and doesn't want to kill people? Wouldn't even hurt a fly he says?
And it gets better. When the spawn reunites with Chucky and Tiffany, there comes a dispute as to whether it's a male or female. And while I can appreciate bringing something new to the table and paying homage to the legendary Ed Wood, Jr., but I'm just not sure how I feel about it in my Chucky movie. Especially the anti-murder morality that is suddenly pushed on him. And then this whole thing with knocking Tilly out and inseminating her? I just wasn't into it.
Enter the meta-monster in which Jennifer Tilly plays "herself", unamusingly parodying her real life and hamming up her ridiculous amount of screen time. It felt more like Don Mancini tickling his Tilly fetish. Having her voicing the doll isn't enough so let's script up something that no matter how stupid it is we need an excuse to get full busty bodied Tilly on screen.
So it's given the New Nightmare treatment, which might have worked well, but ultimately doesn't make a bit of sense. Ok all these Child's Play movies have been fake but whatta ya know? The animatronic puppets that you've been using for the movies has been alive the whole time? Is that right?
But that isn't to say that there wasn't a few things I did like about it. As an admiring fan of The Chuck, it's hard not to enjoy any of his movies even a little. And he's still the same ray of sunshine that he always is, flicking off Britney Spears before running her off the road and off a cliff before masturbating to a Fangoria magazine. Some pretty cool deaths as well. A decapitation, a castration and one of the coolest acid deaths I've ever seen.
It's also cool to see John Waters. Not just a cameo either but actually playing a memorable part. I thought it was cool to learn later that Waters is a huge Chucky fan himself. And Redman? lol Like....wtf is Redman doing here? But he's another long time favorite of mine so I enjoyed it.
BOTTOM LINE: Meh. I mean I will always love Chucky, there are some a couple cool deaths, Tilly's bust is irresistible and John Waters is the man. But I have a sort of love/hate thing for the whole Glen/Glenda thing and really got kind of bored with the asinine plot. I'd love to see more and more Chucky flicks, but I can't get behind this one.

I try to avoid those films. They're creepy.
