So I guess I can understand not wanting a rehash of the first one and try something new, but I just don’t think they went in the right direction. Like leaving out any future governors. I can understand why they didn’t bring Arnie back, but……Danny Glover? I’m sorry but Glover is a boring actor. Besides the Lethal Weapon movies and of course Angels in the Outfield (duh), he just isn’t a very interesting person to watch.
Another bad idea was the drastic change of atmosphere. One of the coolest things about the first was the jungle setting, and now we’re in the big city? Did this particular Predator just pick the short straw or something? Why would you want to “hunt” there? And he’s not even really hunting anymore at this point. He just scopes out the place until he sees some gunplay and then decides to jump in the middle of it all. It doesn’t feel like he’s stalking his prey anymore, instead he’s going in and fucking the place up without much subtlety at all.
There is definitely a fair amount of blood and gore, and a few cool kills. And it probably sounds weird, but my absolute favorite thing about this movie is the “Want some candy?” voice capture. I don’t know why but I have always loved that. It’s funny in a twisted way, because he says it right before killing someone, but it’s also kind of sounds creepy in a way, which I loved.
Bill Paxton once again brings his “annoy the alien to death” approach, but actually didn’t get on my nerves as much he did in Aliens. At least this time he did have some funny jokes. My favorite joke: “So I went to the doctor for a physical and he told me he needed a sample of my urine, stool and semen. I said to him, ‘Hey doc, I’m kind of in a hurry. Mind if I just leave you my underwear?”
BOTTOM LINE: Meh. I mean I’ve seen worse but this is so much weaker than the first and I didn’t really have as much fun with it as others seem to. It either doesn’t care about why the first one was so good or is just trying way too hard NOT to be the first one. Didn’t hate it, but can’t say I liked it either. 4.5/10
I wasn't much of a fan either.. the bit with the old woman and the predator in the bathroom was awful.
I'm not a fan either. The fight in the end is good, but the rest of the movie pretty much stinks.
I like Predator 2, I know it wasn't as good as the first one but I thought it was good.
Yeah , I'm pretty much of the same opinion , but all my buddies and so forth are big fans . It was OK .
I enjoyed it, but compared to the first one, it doesn't compare. This is better than AVP: Requiem by a long shot though.
