Review:

When I've had a shitty day and I need something to cheer me up, this crazy fighting flick never lets me down. It's just such a fun movie, it's the definition of mindless entertainment. In fact, this movie cares so little about a storyline or plot development that is actually spends like 30 or so minutes giving us a tournament of back to back fights, purely for out enjoyment.

And it's the contenders in the tournament that make it all the more amusing, some of them being so over-the-top that its inspiration to games like Street Fighter is so obvious it sometimes feels like your playing one yourself. They even have a fighter who is able to extend his arms to uncanny lengths, just like Dhalsim. And the final battle between the assassin and the one-armed boxer is one of the most kick-ass fight scenes I've come across. So wicked.

BOTTOM LINE: I love it. It's one of the funnest movies I ever seen and it also puts me in a good mood. The assassin and his guillotine hate was awesome, the tournament was wicked and had some fighters that were just out of this world. Over-the-top, batshit crazy fighting that is just a hell of a good time. Check this shit out!

this is one of my all time favorite "off-beat" martial art films of all time. I first saw it in 2007, I then made sure to check out every other Jimmy Wang Yu flick since he seemed to really do these types really well. It really reminded me of the age-old, classic 50's Sinbad movies - you may think what's the connection? Not a big one, but it's the visual aesthetic... those old Ray Harryhausen films and the colorful characters and grungy aesthetic. Love it.
