I haven't watched LOTR trilogy in ages. I think my weekend is now planned...
Daybreakers

I think low expectations helped me enjoy this film a lot more than some people. I thought it was an interesting concept and even though the film slipped into the normal conventions eventually there was some brilliant things going on. All the acting chops were here and while lead Eathan Hawke was out-acted by Dafoe, he still did a good enough job carrying the film. Thats not to say it's without any flaws and plot holes but it was enough to keep me entertained if nothing else.

Nine

| Directed by: | Rob Marshall |
|---|---|
| Written by: | Anthony Minghella, Michael Tolkin |
| Cast: | Daniel Day-Lewis, Penelope Cruz, Nicole Kidman, Judi Dench, Kate Hudson, Sophia Loren, Stacey Ferguson, Marion Cotillard |
| Studio: | Focus Features |
| Genre: | Musical |

I wanted to love Nine as much as I did Chicago but from about 20 minutes in I realized it wasn't meant to be. The songs lacked any sort of enjoyment, the story was slow, the humor was subtle which I got...with subtle laughter. It looks damn stylish and the guy knows how to light a superb cast I just don't think Nine was the right musical to take from the stage. It it were to win an Oscar it would be for best Cinematography, or song, doesn't deserve it though. Avoid it!

Jennifer's Body

| Directed by: | Karyn Kusama |

| Written by: | Diablo Cody |
| Cast: | Megan Fox, Amanda Seyfried, Adam Brody, J.K. Simmons |
| Studio: | Fox |
| Genre: | Comedy, Horror |

This is pretty much a prime example of a film made for a wide audience that I dont feel part of. Sure it was sexy, slick and funny at times, but that doesn't make it less silly. I think if I was younger and didnt know any better, this would be worth of the best film of all time. I can get why people would think that. However I dont find Megan Fox likeable, I dont dig teen horror infact the only reason this has two stars is for the kick ass soundtrack it had. Maybe one day Diablo will write something like Juno again...maybe....

Sherlock Holmes

| Directed by: | Guy Ritchie |
|---|---|
| Written by: | Michael Johnson, Anthony Peckham, Guy Ritchie |
| Cast: | Robert Downey Jr., Jude Law, Rachel McAdams, Mark Strong |
| Studio: | Warner Bros. |
| Genre: | Action, Adventure |

When I seen this film yesterday I was fully prepared to give it three stars but after sleeping on it and re-watching the trailer accidentally I realized I loved it a lot more than I thought. The plot is clever, the dialog and relationships in it are brilliant and the acting is superb. Sherlock Holmes won't dissapoint the fans and wont dissapoint a modern day audience either, its just a speedy 2 hour joy ride. You may have to concentrate in some parts so it's not entirely a no-brainer. Just go and see it and personally I am hoping for a second installment.

Where The Wild Things Are

| Directed by: | Spike Jonze |

As I sat there from the beginning I just had a smile on my face. The score, Spike Jonze's style, the acting, the Indie feel...it is a blend that works. I wasn't going in to judge how well he adapted a 15 page children's book, its a friggin' Jonze film, its not Harry Potter. However on that note I think he tapped into the audience that really matters, the kids who have now grown up. A kids film this isn't, there is some heavy themes in this film and it was brave of the studio to let him run with that, but I think it works. Its dark, its moody...its emo in some ways. I thought Max did a fantastic job, for a 9 year old he carried that film well. The CGI in the faces was perfect. I will be first in line to buy the DVD upon release but right now I'm making do with the superb soundtrack.

New Moon

| Directed by: | Chris Weitz |
|---|---|
| Written by: | |
| Cast: | Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson, Taylor Lautner |
| Studio: | Summit Entertainment |
| Genre: | Horror, Romance, Thriller |
| Official Site: | www.twilightthemovie.com |
I just don't think I'm the target audience for New Moon, I just dont get the fascination. Don't get me wrong, I really liked the first one, I thought it was stylish. But New Moon forgets that and just becomes...what paying audiences wanted it to be I guess. The acting from Lautner is wooden, I spent half the film wanting Pattinson to show up and start acting. But kudos to Stewart who carried the film from start to end. Highly average, I'm sure there are many people who totally disagree with my views but hey...maybe I'm just jealous of Lautner...the perfect bastard.

2012

| Directed by: | Roland Emmerich |
|---|---|
| Written by: | Roland Emmerich, Harald Kloser |
| Cast: | John Cusack, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Danny Glover, Amanda Peet, Thandie Newton, Oliver Platt |
| Studio: | Sony Pictures |
| Genre: | Action |

Emmerich in many ways is Michael Bay but better. Through the outer shell of a massive CGI bonanza was the first decent disaster movie plot in a while. The special effects were astounding, seeing individual people on the ground is just astounding detail to put in and I had a fun ride throughout. It may be a tad long but it didn't stop my enjoyment. Cusack was brilliant, I really begun to love the guy, as was Amanda Peet. Just don't go in expecting intelligence, go in to be entertained and through the cheese and silliness you will just love it.

The Fourth Kind

From what I believe this film has been universally panned by critics. Hit the headlines for the false messages it leads the audience to believe, and just generally had bad word of mouth. So my hopes weren't high going into the cinema. And after toying with the idea for a good hour the film found its way and impressed me from then on. It's not without its flaws, it feels sloppy in places in terms of editing and directing, in fact it feels like it was directed by several different people throughout. But ignoring all that, it turned out to be a very thought provoking film. Falsely advertised as shit-your-pants scary I believe that gave it injustice, The Fourth Kind is much more than that. In most places it reminded me of the brilliant Mothman Prophecies. Nothing is ever seen, it lets your mind roam free, and thats what is scarier than anything else I've seen lately. Anybody with a brain can tell the "real" footage isn't real, the whole film is based loosely on fact, it just creates its own little world. But still at the end it left you to make your own mind up...which I liked.

Paranormal Activity

| Directed by: | Oren Peli |
|---|---|
| Written by: | Oren Peli |
| Cast: | Katie Featherstone, Micah Sloat |
| Studio: | Paramount Pictures |
| Genre: | Horror |
| Official Site: | www.ParanormalMovie.com |
Every once in a while a film will slip under the radar and become a huge success sparking a mediocre career in a harsh world. I don't believe we have that here. Paranormal activity uses a dating concept but makes it creepier than we have ever seen it before. It works and can scare the shit out of you at any moment. The acting was good and the style works. Of course I'm ignoring the astounding fact that this was made for under 10 grand which is just going to launch Oren Peli into the mainstream. A clever use of simple storytelling, no music needed and plenty of frights along the way Paranormal Activity is one of the cleverest horror films in a while.

Where the Wild Things Are making of book is fantastic...Gotta love Jonze
Toy Story in 3-D

| Directed by: | John Lasseter |

| Cast: | Tom Hanks, Tim Allen, Don Rickles, Jim Varney, Wallace Shawn, John Ratzenberger |
| Studio: | Walt Disney/Pixar |
| Genre: | Animation |

Toy story not only remains to one of pixars best films but is also the film that opened up a new generation of film making. Proving that Pixar puts story before animation this movie delights kids and adults alike and after 15 years of it's release, it still remains close to the heart of so many of people and in its recent 3D release it just brings something totally new to it...amazing.

Fame

| Directed by: | Kevin Tancharoen |
|---|---|
| Written by: | Allison Burnett, Aline Brosh McKenna |
| Cast: | Megan Mullally, Kelsey Grammer, Bebe Neuwirth, Charles S. Dutton, Debbie Allen, Kay Panabaker |
| Studio: | MGM |
| Genre: | Drama |

After the success of High School Musical some executives somewhere probably decided it was time for a re-boot of Fame which is unfortunate for everyone involved. A genuine re-boot that everybody wanted probably would have benefited this film, but right now there is no passion, plot nor any interestest raised at all. It is a bore from about 20 minutes in until the end...I feel like all of the characters stories were pointless and none of them were ever wrapped up. Unfortunate and painful to watch.

Surrogates

| Directed by: | Jonathan Mostow |
|---|---|
| Written by: | Michael Ferris, John Brancato |
| Cast: | Bruce Willis, Radha Mitchell, Rosamund Pike, Boris Kodjoe, Jack Noseworthy, Ving Rhames |
| Studio: | Touchstone Pictures |
| Genre: | Science-Fiction |

When I,Robot came out about 5 years ago a lot of critics panned it unfairly and I feel like surrogates is suffering from that exact problem. I personally loved it for the fun...I wont remember any of it in years to come but to watch it isnt a painful experience. The action is adquate, the plot is passable and the plot doesnt take itself too seriously...which maybe could have made it better in the end.

Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs

Its nice to see an animation nowadays which doesnt totally suck, bar Pixar CG animations are churned out with no thoughts nor constant story development which normally means they suck or if lucky are bareable. CWACOM is none of those. Its funny for one and while its quite obvious that some of the jokes fall flat on their asses, its also quite obvious people had fun making this movie. Its a good story and must create killer food sales...the animation standards are nothing close to Pixar...but its nice to see theres still some competition.

I thought this was def the best Vamp film since Nightwatch
