Memories of 9/11...Where were you?

I am a first responder and a veteran. I had worked all night and was in bed asleep when I received a call from my son, who was 14 at the time and in high school. He said, "Dad, something bad has happened, get up and get to the TV." I staggered, half asleep, to the living room and sat down on the couch and turned on the tube. I struggled to focus (after only being asleep for about 2 hrs.) and then the devastation struck me like a brick wall. I watched in horror as our country was attacked and the events unfolded before my eyes. Time seemed to be standing still. I immediately called work and asked "Do you need me?" They didn't, but were all as stunned as I was. After the feeling of shock left me, a feel of doubt and dread took it's place. I picked up the phone and called my aunt and uncle (both of the WWII generation, been through Pearl Harbor and Uncle John having landed on the beaches of Normandy) for a moral lift and some experienced support. It was probably the best thing I could've done. A new president was in office and had only been in for 9 mos. Not wanting to make this a political statement, but I stated to my aunt, "I wish President Clinton were still in office." My aunt, being a Republican said, "I do too", which surprised me. The rest of the morning, I stood by the TV as most did, and watched the unfolding events. Later that evening, I picked up my son and we talked of the attacks. That night, I went back to work.

Again, I am a first responder and a veteran. Next time you see a police officer, fire fighter, EMS worker, police dispatcher, member of our Armed Forces, tell them how much you appreciate them. Tell them how much you appreciate their vigilance. George Orwell said, "People sleep peaceably in their beds at night only because rough men stand ready to do violence on their behalf." Keep this in mind when you speak to these folks, and thank them for being there. I can tell you from past experiences. It means the world to them. May God bless them and their families.

Where were you and what were you doing when the attacks occurred?

I remember, i was out walking my dog and my mum called me on my cell. She told me that someone had crashed a plane into the world trade centre. At first I thought it was a pilot error or something. Then I gopt home and saw it on television and my mum was sobbing. It was like World War 3 was breaking out, we just had no ieda what was going to happen next. I was working for Thomas Cook at the time and I was working in the call centre. On September 12th, that was the busiest day of work I've ever had, everyone cancelling their flights. I will always remember one guy who called and was cancelling his trip to the Pentagon because all of the people he was supposed to meet were killed. Such an awful, awful time. My prayers go out to everyone on this 10th anniversary.

being on the other side of the world it happened in the early hours of the 12th NZ time,I awoke early too go to work and like usual first thing I did was turn on the television. My first thought was I was watching a film of some kind before the reality of the horror i was witnessing and the realization that the world had changed.I banged on the door of my flatmate to wake up and watch what was on folding in front of our eyes.As one of the few English as a first language speaking countries we naturally associate our selves with America(even thou we don't always admit it)and this attack on our bigger brother felt like an attack on us.

Verily I Say..........

Finally saw "Thor" with my 8 year old daughter in tow. We both liked the film, great special effects, and Chris Hemsworth was very worthy as the main man himself. Great action as well and Sif (that Jaimie Alexander...woof!), and the Warriors 3 were awesome. Superb job by Sir Anthony for his portrayal of Odin and Tom Hiddleston as Loki.

Great flick.

8 out of 10 for sure.

I'd go for another. Maybe featuring Balder, the Enchantress and Ulik or the Wrecker?

Should I Get My Hopes Up?

There is word out there today that Peter Jackson may be directing the Hobbit movies to get MGM/WB to get moving. I'd love to see it happen, but I'll keep from getting too overworked.

PLEASE!

Eureka! I've Found It...

Avatar-movie-poster

I think I've figured it out friends. The reason "Avatar" has made so much money. There's nothing else out there worth a damn to watch! It's simple really.
