The next morning Jaime goes to visit her grandfather (Nancy’s father) Robert (Robert Englund), a retired police officer. Jaime asks him about Jason Kruger killings, Robert remembers them, having been one of the officers working on the case.

Kruger raped and killed 69 women with many more unconfirmed, it started small with hookers and run-aways but it escalated until his final victim was one of the police officers after him. Robert had been one of the officers that last saw Kruger before he jumped into the wax. They had to wait for the wax to cool before they pulled him out. The smell stuck with him.
There was no apparent reason for Kruger’s actions, he just hated women.
