Decided to skip X-Men Orgins: Wolverine since I've heard nothing but awful things about it, so to finish up the X-men movie's now onto First Class.

X-Men: First Class

First-class-poster-new

Directed by: Matthew Vaughn
Written by: Matthew Vaughn, Jane Goldman, Bryan Singer
Cast: Michael Fassbender, James McAvoy, Zoe Kravitz, January Jones, Kevin Bacon, Oliver Platt, Nicholas Hoult, Jennifer Lawrence, Caleb Landry Jones , Lucas Till, Edi Gathegi, Jason Flemyng, Rose Byrne
Studio: Fox
Genre: Action, Adventure, Comic Book
Official Site: www.x-menfirstclassmovie.com
Plot: In 1962, the United States government enlists the help of Mutants with superhuman abilities to stop a malicious dictator who is determined to start world war III.

Review:

I liked the first X-men, even though I found it to have quite a few flaws. The second one, while still not perfect, was a very good film with some great acting and direction. The third one was boring, had gigantic plot holes and bland direction, but I didn't despise it. I skipped Wolverine because I haven't heard anyone say the movie was good, I've heard one say it was a guilty pleasure, but that's it. So I skipped right to First Class, and I can say that this is easily the best one...[more]...

Terminator Salvation

2009-terminator_salvation-3

Directed by: McG
Written by: Michael Ferris, John Brancato
Cast: Christian Bale, Sam Worthington, Anton Yelchin, Moon Bloodgood, Bryce Dallas Howard, Common
Studio: Warner Bros
Genre: Action, Science-Fiction
Official Site: www.terminatorsalvation.com
Plot: Set after Judgement Day, we see the resistance as they try and win the war against the machines.

Review:

The first two Terminator films are fantastic, while the first one has some effects that have aged horribly, and the second has some gigantic plot holes, they are great, entertaining films with likable characters and well done stories. The third one, while not really that bad, is just a rehash of the second one meant to make money. And while it did have a cool ending, it just felt unnecasary. Terminator Salvation, or T4 is definently flawed, but it is an entertaining, interesting movie that doesn't just feel like a movie made for the money...[more]...

I agree. The stuff with Kyle, Star and Marcus was good. Liked Blair too. Honestly Bale was the weak link in this one. Not bad. Just miscast.

^ I really dig this movie but I have to agree to a certain extent. I absolutely love Bale and he is a phenomenal actor, but when he does roles like this or even the Batman movies his action hero character just seems a bit dull and generic to me, not sure what it is. It works though, but it's nothing special. Still I didn't think he brought the movie down, but truth be told it was probably my least favourite version of John Connor. The rest of the cast was great though, Worthington was a real nice surprise and the movie was overall quite enjoyable. Would love to see parts 2 and 3 to this supposed trilogy!

X-Men: The Last Stand

2006-x_men_3-1

Directed by: Brett Ratner
Written by: Zak Penn, Simon Kinberg
Cast: Hugh Jackman, Patrick Stewart, Shawn Ashmore, Daniel Cudmore, Alan Cumming, Famke Janssen, James Marsden, Ian McKellen, Anna Paquin, Rebecca Romijn-Stamos, Kelsey Grammer
Studio: Fox
Genre: Action, Comic Book
Official Site: www.xmen3themovie.com
Plot: When a cure is found to treat mutations, lines are drawn amongst the X-Men, led by Professor Charles Xavier, and the Brotherhood, a band of powerful mutants organized under Xavier's former ally, Magneto.

Review:

I had heard that this movie was unwatchably bad by several people. But to be fair I had heard from several other people that the movie actually wasn't that bad. So I went in with very mixed expectations, and what did I think of it? I...didn't really like it that much, I wasn't mad, I was just so uninterested...[more]...

The Abyss

1989-the-abyss-poster1

Directed by: James Cameron
Written by: James Cameron
Cast: Ed Harris, Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio, Michael Biehn, Leo Burmester
Studio: Fox
Genre: Sci-Fi, Adventure
Official Site:
Plot: A group of people head down below the sea to see why a submarine crashed. While there stuff happens.

Review:

Jame's Cameron's the Abyss is often regarded as one of his best movies. Well, I don't know about that, I certainly wouldn't call it bad, but for me, there isn't that much special about it, or much that gives it much rewatch value...[more]...

X2: X-Men United

2003-x_men_two-2

Directed by: Bryan Singer
Written by: Dan Harris, Michael Dougherty
Cast: Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, Famke Janssen, James Marsden, Hugh Jackman, Halle Berry, Anne Paquin, Rebecca Romijn-Stamos, Bruce Davidson, Alan Cumming, Kelly Hu, Aaron Stanford, Katie Stuart, Shawn Ashmore, Brian Cox, Peter Wingfield, Alfred E. Humphries, Jill Teed, James Kirk, Ty Olsson, Kea Wong, Shauna Kain
Studio: 20th Century Fox
Genre: Action
Official Site: www.x2-movie.com
Plot: The X-Men band together to find a mutant assassin who has made an attempt on the President's life, while the Mutant Academy is attacked by military forces.

Review:

While I enjoyed the first X-men, I knew that it had room for improvment. The characters were interesting, but they needed a more interesting plot and better villian schemes in order to be great. And while X2 does have it's fair amount of problems, it's a damn good superhero movie with some great writing and direction...[more]...

Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines

2003-terminator_three_rise_of_the_machines-1

Directed by: Jonathan Mostow
Written by: Tedi Sarafian, John Brancato, Michael Ferris
Cast: Arnold Schwarzenegger, Nick Stahl, Kristanna Loken, Claire Danes
Studio: Warner Bros.
Genre: Action, Science-Fiction
Official Site:
Plot: Have you seen the second one? Then you know the plot to this one.

Review:

Terminator 3 is the definition of a Hollywood sequel. It has absoluty no reason to exist, the only reason it was made was because the last one made a lot of money. And they decide to rehash the last movie in order to be lazy so they don't have to come up with any new ideas. So in the end, Terminator 3 is a pointless movie, but its saved by being a fun enough ride. (This will have spoilers by the way...[more]...

Aliens

1986-aliens-poster3

Directed by: James Cameron
Written by: James Cameron
Cast: Sigourney Weaver, Michael Biehn, Paul Reiser, Bill Paxton, Lance Henricksen
Studio: Fox
Genre: Science-Fiction
Official Site:
Plot: Years after the events of the first movie, Ripley is being called back to an expidition to save a colony of people on a planet filled with Xenomorphs.

Review:

Alien is one of my favorite science fiction movies, so making a sequel that out does it will be very hard. And I think I'm in the minority that likes Alien a bit more than Aliens. Not to say Aliens isn't great, because it is, and in some ways it is better. But I think there was just a charm to the simple and slow buildup of the first movie...[more]...

Review:

Well after putting it off for several years I have finally decided to sit down and watch the X-Men movies. Plot: In the town of Perfection, they say there's nothing new under the sun. But under the ground...

Review:

For my 200th review I've decided to look at what I consider the best B-movie ever made, Tremors. Tremors is one of the best examples of a campy mondern day monster movie. It knows exactly what it wants to be and has fun with every moment of it. I've given good ratings to movies like The Happening and Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters, but those don't quite have the charm that Tremors has...[more]...

Plot: A girl is overtaken by an alien.

Review:

I was never one of those people that called the "Twilight" series one of the worst things ever. At worst they were mostly just boring. I was actually looking forward to this movie. Not only did the premise sound kind of cool, but I had heard from people who hate Twilight that the novel "The Host" was actually pretty good. And maybe it is, but the movie sucked ass...[more]...

Directed by: Steven Spielberg
Written by: David Franzoni
Cast: Morgan Freeman, Nigel Hawthorne, Anthony Hopkins, Djimon Hounsou, Matthew McConaughey, David Palmer, Pete Postlethwaite, Stellan Skarsgard
Studio: Dreamworks Pictures
Genre: Drama
Official Site:
Plot: About a 1839 mutiny aboard a slave ship that is traveling towards the northeastern coast of America. Much of the story involves a court-room drama about the free man who led the revolt.

Review:

The beginning with the slaves on the ship is great. The rest of the movie is just so not my thing. It is bad? Not really, it's just not for me, I was bored through most of it, didn't care about the characters, and have forgotten most of it. And that's all I have to say about that.

Genre: Drama, War
Official Site:
Plot: Young Albert enlists to serve in World War I after his beloved horse is sold to the cavalry. Albert's hopeful journey takes him out of England and to the front lines as the war rages on.

Review:

Whenever Steven Spielberg releases two films in a year, one of them will usually be a blockbuster simply meant to entertain, and the other will be his "oscar" movie. 1993 we had Jurassic Park and Shindler's List. 2005 had War of the Worlds and Munich, and 2011 had TinTin and this. And pretty much everytime I always prefer the blockbuster, and this is the case for here...[more]...

Iron Man 3

Genre: Action, Comic Book
Official Site: www.IronManMovie3.com
Plot: Tony Stark goes up against a terrorist called the Madarin. There's stuff in there I won't spoil.

Review:

I liked the first Iron Man, but I'd be lying if I said it wasn't a little bit over rated. Iron Man 2, while flawed, I just had a lot of fun watching, and in my opinion is a little under rated. So now we have Iron Man 3, and the best way to describe it is a mix of the other two. The well done story of the first, and the funny banter of the second, with fantastic action scenes. While I'm sure some Comic book fans will hate it, I personally found it the best of the trilogy...[more]...

Plot: A handyman after the world has become uninhabitable learns there might be more to his life than he thinks.

Review:

Oblivion is a very interesting film. In that it's both an incredibly simple story, and yet manages to be very confusing. It throws plenty of twists at you, some of them are very easy to figure out, some will really throw you for a loop. So overall I would say that Oblivion is a very good film, that just misses the mark of greatness. And while I won't be rushing out to see it again, I might need to see it a few more times just to get it...[more]...
