I'm going out on a limb and saying that since most of the ratings for After Earth are either a 10 or a 1, that most of the people who rated it haven't actually seen it. OR they were rated by those people who rate every movie like 10 for liked it and 1 for didn't like it.

The Last Exorcism: Part II

Last-exorcism2-poster2

Directed by: Ed Gass-Donnelly
Written by: Ed Gass-Donnelly
Cast: Ashley Bell, Andrew Sensenig, Spencer Clark, Julia Garner, Louis Herthum
Studio: CBS Films
Genre: Horror
Official Site: www.thelastexorcism2.com
Plot: After the events of the first movie, Nell tries to go back to an ordinary life.

Review:

I enjoyed the first Last Exorcism, despite breaking a lot of the laws of the found footage gimmick and having a really lackluster ending, it was still pretty good. This movie sucked ass.

Why? It's boring, it isn't scary, it isn't unintentionally funny and I couldn't get into the story at all. It was just uninteresting that for a movie that's around 90 minutes long I was begging for it to end. The characters are forgettable, it has lame scares, and the plot is just a mess. Apparantly a follow up to a movie with a bad ending isn't a very good idea. Oh and the ending sucked, but it was at least interesting I'll give it that.

Alright what did work? Ashley Bell. She did a very good job, and was very likable, and made me want to see her get out of this situation. The beginning was kind of cool, it looked nice, and it at least seemed like it was trying to be a good sequel. But I don't know why they dropped the found footage gimmick, because that worked out so well for Blair Witch 2.

This movie could have been like Paranormal Activity 2 and been a great sequel, it could have been like Grave Encounters 2, or hell, it could even have been like Blair Witch 2 and it would have been better. It sucked.

hahaha . Well , it's pretty much unanimous . Everything I've read so far has said pretty much the same . Shame , Ashley Bell has got some chops .

A Good Day to Die Hard

A0f2i

Directed by: John Moore
Written by: Skip Woods
Cast: Bruce Willis, Jai Courtney, Cole Hauser, Mary Elizabeth Winstead
Studio: Fox
Genre: Action
Official Site: www.diehardmovie.com
Plot: John McClane heads to Russia to get his son, but he ends up taking part in a spy plot about a Russian guy.

Review:

I love the Die Hard series, the first one is pretty much the perfect action movie. The second one is stupid as hell but I love it. The third is one of the best action movies of the 90's. And the fourth, while not as memorable as the first three, was still fun and was well directed. So now we have the fifth one which has been getting pretty panned. So before watching it I lowered my expectations. And well...I didn't hate it, it just was a generic forgettable action movie that feels more like Jason Bourne than John McClane...[more]...

Studio: Dimension Films
Genre: Comedy

Plot: A Parody of movies such as Paranormal Activity series, Mama, Sinister...Rise of the Planet of the Apes...Black Swan...and Inception.

Review:

Here's a little confession, the first four Scary Movies are big guilty pleasures for me. Yeah I know they aren't very good movies, but I still laughed quite often and I liked the characters. So when making the fifth movie in your series, the best thing to do is get a different directors, different writers, and different actors right...[more]...

Cast: Tim Allen,Sigourney Weaver, Alan Rickman,Tony Shalhoub, Sam Rockwell, Daryl Mitchell, Enrico Colantoni, Robin Sachs, Patrick Breen, Missi Pyle, Jed Rees, Justin Long
Studio: Dreamworks
Genre: Comedy

Plot: A group of actors from a cancelled sci-fi show are recruited by an alien race who think they are really their characters.

Review:

When it comes to weather I prefer Star Wars or Star Trek, I personally love Star Wars so much more. I haven't seen any of the Star Trek shows, and the movie's have been hit and miss, although I will say most of them are good than bad. However, when comparing Spaceballs to Galaxy Quest, I actually like Galaxy Quest more. Spaceballs has some really funny villians, but I don't think it really parodies Star Wars better than Galaxy Quest does to Star Trek...[more]...

Star Trek: Nemesis

2002-star_trek_nemesis-2

Directed by: Stuart Baird
Written by: John Logan
Cast: Patrick Stewart, Brent Spiner, LeVar Burton, Steven Culp, Michael Dorn, Jonathan Frakes, Ron Perlman, Whoopi Goldberg, Tom Hardy, Gates McFadden, Kate Mulgrew, Marina Sirtis, Wil Wheaton, Majel Barrett
Studio: Paramount Pictures
Genre: Action, Drama, Sci-Fi, Thriller
Official Site: nemesis.startrek.com
Plot: After the Enterprise is diverted to the Romulan planet of Romulus, supposedly because they want to negotiate a truce, the Federation soon find out the Romulans are planning an attack on Earth.

Review:

Star Trek Nemesis is often considered the weakest even numbered Star Trek in the series, and...yeah I pretty much agree. Mostly because I got lost while watching it and I'm pretty sure they just made up some of this shit as they went along. But what I really enjoyed were the action scenes, they went big and all out for some of them. The film just feels bigger than the other Star Trek movies, with the exception of the reboot. The characters were enjoyable and had their funny moments, and it had some great effects. So how's the story? It's servicable, it's intriguing enough to get from one action scene to the next, but not that memorable. So overall, not an awful way to end the franchise, certainly was better than Inserection anyway.

Star Trek: Insurrection

Posternot_available

Directed by: Jonathan Frakes
Written by: Michael Piller
Cast: Patrick Stewart, Jonathan Frakes, Brent Spiner, LeVar Burton, Michael Dorn, Gates McFadden
Studio: Paramount
Genre: Sci-Fi

Plot: The enterprise is tyring to help a group of young beautiful people keep their planet from the old, ugly, dying aliens that need it to stay alive.

Review:

This movie sucked, I won't sugar coat it, or be nice about it, it just flat out sucked. I mean the ethical questions on weather they are doing the right thing when they actually are helping the wrong side are one thing. I can get over that. But what I can't get over is the awful pacing of this movie. It feels like I'm watching an episode of the TV series, and not even a two parter, this would have worked as a one hour episode rather than a movie. The characters and plot are completely forgettable, but what really surprise me was how cheap it looked. The special effects, costume designs, and sets all look like they were made, once again, for an episode of the TV series with a smaller budget. I looked this had 13 million more than First Contact, and that movie looked great, this one looks so cheap. Anyway, I'm just repeating myself, this movie sucks.

Studio: Paramount Pictures
Genre: Sci-Fi

Plot: The crew of the enterprise vs. The Borg.

Review:

This one was great. I definently noticed a change when the Next Generation crew came in in the last movie, but that movie didn't really give them much to do. This movie uses them all, and unlike some of the other Star Trek movies, it feels big, it feels like a huge blockbuster movie and not just a Star Trek movie. It had a strong conflict, from what I understand it's a sequel to an episode of the series much like Wrath of Khan was. The villian was good. It had some funny moments. Really good effects, sure some of them were a bit dated but most of them still looked good. And the story kept me interested rather than bore me. Definently one of the best Star Trek movies.

The Borg appeared several times throughout the show, but yeah this was mainly a direct followup to the 2-parter "Best of Both Worlds". There was never any Queen though, that was made up entirely for this movie.

Star Trek: Generations

1994-star-trek-generations-poster1

Directed by: David Carson
Written by: Ronald D. Moore, Brannon Braga
Cast: Patrick Stewart, Jonathan Frakes, Brent Spiner, LeVar Burton, Malcolm McDowell, James Doohan, Walter Koenig, William Shatner
Studio: Paramount Pictures
Genre: Science-Fiction
Official Site:
Plot: Captain Pickard must enlist the help of Captain Kirk in order to save 230 million people.

Review:

I don't really know about this one, some stuff was really cool, some stuff was really lame. The film has the pacing I'm more used to in movies, that doesn't mean it can't be really boring at times, because it can. But when it's entertaining, it's entertaining. It has some very nice effects. The beginning was great, I loved the crash, and it could be funny at some points. Plus it gave me a good introduction to most of the characters.

However it just feels like a giant missed oppurtunity. The emotion chip had potential, the nexis plot had potential, and Pickard and Kirk teaming up had potentail, but they all pretty much left a lot to be desired. Basically everything good and bad cancel each other out, so I would say it was just half good and half bad. But because it wasted so much potential, I'll give it a final score of 4.
