Into the Gray Chapter 4
Author's note: Thanks guys for reading! In case you want to catch up, here are chapters 1, 2, and 3
The District Attorney struck a plea deal with Dean, manslaughter in the second degree. He would serve eight to twelve years and would be placed in the same cellblock with Chazz’s “family”. It did help that the Executive Assistant Distract Attorney was his former law professor. Despite his better judgment, he made a lenient plea bargain with Dean letting his personal feelings interfere with his work. Although he didn’t take the bait when he was offered freedom in exchange for the names of Chazz’s associates; he was a murder not a rat.
The cellblock where Chazz’s “family” stayed was almost like home. He had grown up with most of the inmates so he felt at ease. It wasn’t required of him but he chose to work in the infirmary. Other than read, write, workout, watch movies and television it was another way for him to pass time until Scott would come by for his weekly visit.
A heavy left his mouth when he looked at the endless amount of medical supplies that he had to restock the shelves with. There were moments when he considered if murdering Larry was worth it, this was one of them. After tearing open the first package he turned around when he heard an unfamiliar voice come out of the Chief MD’s office.
“Honey, dinner’s in the fridge. Why? Because it’s my first day, I can’t leave early..We talked about this already,” Maria sighed, “I don’t wanna fight about this. I have to go, ok? Love you too, bye.”
He almost forgot how to breathe once she fully emerged from the office. The green scrubs she wore paired with a sensible ponytail couldn’t conceal her true beauty. Dark curly wisps framed her caramel complexion awhile subtle makeup accentuated her doe eyes and perfect full lips. As a teenager, Chazz taught Dean how to accurately assess a woman’s size no matter what she wore. Simply by looking at the Latina goddess approaching him, he could tell by the swell of her curvaceous hips and ample breasts that she was a size six.
Maria was usually keen on details from her appearance to her work. She felt as if she had missed something after exiting her office. When she opened her folder she saw all the forms she needed then she realized her mistake once she felt herself falling forward.
The moment his eyes traveled to her right shoe’s untied laces, he cursed and immediately went to her. He caught Maria before she was able to hit the floor. Her dark eyes met his causing a rush of exhilaration, lust and joy travel through his veins as he held her.
Warmth overcame her body once her stare connected with her unexpected savior. His dark short hair and chocolate eyes complimented his handsome face. From underneath her hands she could feel the firm muscles on his arms and lean long build against her body.
“I have you.” he said with a boyish grin while he helped her onto her feet.
“Thanks, I feel uh..I can’t believe I forgot to tie my laces,” she exhaled and grinned feeling a little embarrassed as she bent down to tie her shoe laces.
He shrugged and kneeled down, “It happens,” he picked up the papers and placed them in the folder.
She shook her head, “You really don’t have to it’s my fault.”
“It’s nothing,” he handed her the folder, “I’m Dean,” he offered his hand to her.
Even though she knew he was a prisoner, she didn’t feel threatened by him at all, “I’m Maria Lopez, it’s a pleasure meeting you.”
He was touched that she didn’t refer to herself as a doctor first, he was always thought those whose who did were pretentious. Her humble heart turned him on, “Believe me, the pleasure is all mine.”
Being hit on was to be expected when working in a men’s prison. However, she couldn’t believe at how complimented she felt, “Um..I-I have patients to see. Thanks again.”
He nodded and handed her back the folder then returned to the caged supply closet. Using the reflection on one of the glass cabinet doors, he held back a smile when he saw her giving him one last look before leaving the room. A wide smile spread across his face, it looked like working in the infirmary had at least one perk.
The bright mood Dean was in couldn’t be ignored by Maria. Since her first day, they had formed a casual friendship, she found him to be brilliant, funny, kind and charming. Of course she also avoided finding out what his crime was. She was afraid of how she might react if she did but still, her curiosity lingered. Other than that, she thought it was nice to have a friend to talk to during a slow day. Even though she did find her self becoming more attracted to him, she tried her to best to ignore it.
“Why are you in such a good mood?” she leaned against the entrance of the caged supply closet.
“It’s nothing,” he shook his head.
“Oh come on, tell me,” she politely urged him.
He tossed an empty box to the side, “I got the new season of Friends on DVD today.”
She beamed, “I love Friends! Is it the season with the one where
Chandler says ‘I love you’ to Monica?”
His eyes grew large with delight, “It is! She has the turkey with the red hat on her head. Doing this dance,” he then held his forearms and shook his shoulders and chest.
A loud boisterous laugh came from her. It had been some time since she had laughed so hard she almost forgot how great it felt.
Proud, he felt his lips form into a huge smile. He hadn’t realized how much he missed the sound and sight of a beautiful woman laughing until that moment.
“Well that has to be the best Monica turkey dance I’ve ever seen,” she told him.
“Thanks, it took hours to perfect,” he walked towards her to reach for a box by the entrance.
Their faces were mere inches apart; he caught the sweet subtle aroma of her apple body lotion. She blinked unsure of how to react to his close distance but to her surprise she remained still. The way light shone on her naturally luminous face drew him to her. As his head started to lean forward she reminded herself of where she was and that she was a married woman. She stepped back clearing her throat and straightening her posture.
With obvious disappointment, he lowered his head and then looked up into her eyes. Perhaps it was his mind playing tricks on him; he could have sworn that she hesitated before moving away. He wouldn’t have a chance to press her on the issue. A nurse walked in summoning her. She could feel her eyes on him as she left the room. As much as she hated to admit it, it turned her on.
Chillin'I am really getting into this. Its building up nicely. A lot of good background on Dean which is good. Paints a picture that he is not like all the other criminals, but still a bad person at the same time.
@Owl-Me too! I love their Thanksgiving episodes!
@Bodyguard-Thanks. I wanted to show that he isn't evil, he's layered.

I love the part when Joey see's Monica with the Turkey on her head.
