I'd love it if Kelly Hu was in the next Fast & Furious movie. This isn't based on any reports, it's my personal wish.

Review:Asylum

_0a0aaaasylum

Plot: Six college students discover their dorm was once an insane asylum that conducted gruesome lobotomy's on its teenage inmates during the 1930's. (IMDB)

This had an unoriginal yet interesting premise, it was the execution that failed. The late David R. Ellis did a good but great job directing this, it dragged in the first half. It looked well shot for a straight to DVD flick. Unfortunately, the kills were cheesy, the CGI was crappy and there were no scares but it is blood.

Sarah Roemer and Jake Muxworthy was the strongest actors out of the bunch. The other college students weren't written well and they averaged from fine to awful performance-wise. Mark Rolston who has turned in better performances is terrible as the villain! In no way was he real or even terrifying.

Skip it.

The Bottom Line

Thumb_colourbox3507476

I have enjoyed things that from come corporations, very few people haven’t. However, I’m not one to immediately side with them because their top priority is to make money and save as much as they can while doing it. That’s what makes them different from charities; they’re profit driven and amoral. It hard to determine how many of them are the latter until it’s too late. My example is extreme but it also proves my point. Look at the garment factory fires and collapse in Bangladesh that killed over a hundred people in November of last year and a thousand people this April. They’re working in awful conditions while being paid very little. During the fire alarm, their supervisors made them stay and continue working! The management didn’t care about their employees because all that matters is profit.

I’m usually optimistic but when it comes to corporations or even intuitions like schools/colleges/churches, I can’t immediately believe them when accusations or actual charges are filed against them. Publicists handle those “released statements”. They’re supposed to make their clients look good and handle damage control. Sometimes, that involves the truth but it’s not a requirement. If a company or institution has an image/reputation to uphold and a profit motive, there’s a good chance that morality and the law are thrown out because of greed and self-preservation. I bring this up because I don’t view networks and movie studios any differently.

You mention the amoral. The "amoral" rests between the "moral" and the "immoral." From an amoral position, such as corporations have, an individual can rise to the moral and the good or fall into the immoral. As sometimes mentioned, corporations are collective individuals ("Companies are people, my friend."). As individuals, corporations must decide who they will be. As you know, one British psychologist found recent corporations to be sick: machiavellian, sociopathic, narcissistic. Hopefully, as with actual humans, corporations can improve themselves through both internal and external help. There is hope. Through many sources, the internet included, corporations are learning to respect and incorporate everyone and the people.

Review:Hiding

Tt2124172

Plot:After witnessing her parents being murdered, a teenage girl is placed into the witness protection program.

This could have been a 7.5 if the writer had done research about the witness protection program. I noticed so many mistakes that were only created to put the lead's secret at risk and then being found by the wrong people. I also hate how two of the characters are underdeveloped. This high school only has 200 students and yet the two guys who are falling for the lead NEVER find out about each other. One of them is the big man on campus. For some reason, the director would make the flashbacks literally shaky, accompanied by the sound of a heart beating and yellow tint. It was awful and distracting.

However, I liked the rest of the cast. Ana Villafañe turned in a good performance but it could have been great if she had cried or at least became teary-eyed when she thought about her loss. Jeremy Sumpter was natural as the cocky yet sweet and charming jock. Tyler Blackburn was just as solid as the sensitive artist. The hitman was great when he was creepy but not when he had to be normal and charismatic. The US Marshal needed to be written better because he acted..off.

This was well shot and of course in Canada. It could have been better!

That's too bad about the poor research and unrealistic situations. Those would really bother me too. The plot sounds really interesting though.

The Bat and the Cat (animated)

335px-le_chat_et_la_souris

I've been revisiting Batman: The Animated Series/The Adventures of Batman and Robin. Like my recent experience with Batman Beyond, watching the episodes feel new because I hadn't all of them when they originally aired. The "Dark Deco" look of the characters and the whole universe. I am enthralled with this incarnation of Catwoman/Selina Kyle. Her relationship with Bruce/Batman is one of my favorite parts of the show.

I'm a big fan of Batman: TAS. I grew up with it and feel the tone of that show is simply perfect. I can understand being enthralled by this version of Kyle. Adrienne Barbeau really knocked it out of the park, performance wise.

As expected, the cast of The Hangover and Fast Six are hitting the talk show circuit. I would have preferred to see Joss Whedon on Conan because I think every famous person I like should be chatting it up with him. I'm a Modern Family fan but do they really need to promote the show? It's one of the top 3 comedies on TV right now according to the ratings.

Review: Writer’s Block

330092

Plot: A successful but lonely novelist struggles to complete her manuscript

Most of the rating comes from Morgan Fairchild as the lead. She really did carry this movie well and wasn’t just some pretty face. Except for the love interest and the fan, everyone else did just as well as Morgan. Those two were bland. This movie dragged and it’s really obvious what the twist is. I honestly though it was awful and was only done for shock value. It’s a shame because this could have been a decent thriller/mystery.

Review of Escape from Terror: The Teresa Stamper

_0a0aaaescapefromfear

Plot: Based on a true story, a woman unknowingly marries a psychotic man and even after she leaves, she lives in fear of her life

I know that this has been so many time but this one was a bit different. I really liked how Unsolved Mysteries was used and it unfortunate that shows like it aren’t around as much anymore.

The acting is pretty good, especially from the lead, Maria Pitillo. We’re told and shown why she fell for this evil bastard. Storke who portrays said bastard did come off as charming although we don’t know why he’s crazy. They offer something about his past but it doesn’t explain why he keeps on repeating his action and crossing the line. He’s somehow able to find Stamper no matter where she goes and does to hide her identity! It’s not explained how he’s able to do this and this was before the internet was a part of our lives. Brad Dourif was natural as the determined police officer wanting to help Stamper.

If there was more info on the evil bastard, this would have been a 6.5
