About halfway through May, it occurred to me I had watched nothing but sci-fi movies so I just decided to stick with it and only watch sci-fi movies for the rest of the month.

hope Dawn is just as nice of a surprise as Rise was! Serkis was so awesome in it!!
12/13 makes me so happy, as does their scores.. glad you enjoyed em bro
@AngryJohnny - Ohh no, definitely wasn't my first time seeing JP. Anything with the (*) is a first time watch.

Indiana Jones and Aragorn, my two favorites.. with Ripley coming in at #3, so this list rocks fucking house.

Great director. Really love Jack too. But The Godfather movies and Apocalypse Now are excellent.
I'd replace jack with rainmaker and although i dont think godfather 3 isn't as bad as some people say I'd put it at 10
A total of 24 Best Picture Nominees/Winners and 1 Best Animated Feature Winner.
Almost gave 12 Angry Men 10 out of 10...but I just have a hard time giving a movie a perfect score on a first time viewing.

Nice list!
Batman '89 is my favorite of all Batmans.
I love Robin Hood too, a favorite Disney.
♫"Robin Hood & Little John walking through the forest..."

Edited it to 20. Love listening to their commentaries!
And I haven't seen Battleship yet, but hearing their review of it was hysterical!

haha I know I was just making an observation. I appreciate the reference!

Based on a list by OldKingClancy
I actually didn't see any of the nominees for 'worst movie', so I went with Battleship based on Law and Moreno's review of it, which was hysterical!
fuck, i have "the master" sitting right here and i still havent watched it..and i call my self a pta fanboy..pfft
All of these were either nominated or won for best picture. Except Pan's Labyrinth which was nominated for best foreign language film.
I doubt I'll have time to watch all of these though. I'll be lucky if I see have of them.
I hope you get to see some of those first watches. 12 Angry Men, JFK, Pianist and Good Night, and Good Luck are great.
^Yeah I'm definitely gonna watch my 'first time watches' before the others.

I should've bumped the list up to 20...forgot to include The Counselor, Three Years a Slave, Sin City, Carrie, Gravity, Wolf of Wall Street, Kick-Ass 2, aaaaand some others I can't think of right now.
2013 looks like it'll be another awesome year!

So many films I have yet to catch up on, it's ridiculous, your list was a great reminder of that.

A Christmas Story NEVER gets old Even with that 24 hour marathon. Ill love that one forever!
Actually, after seeing The Hobbit for a second time, I'm giving it a 9/10.

^ whoa! I was looking for that one, damn you guys and you're way better deals!
^Yeah got that one at Best Buy.
Also, none of these buys were actually made on 'Black Friday'...I refuse to go near any shopping center/mall over that weekend...just too much craziness to deal with. I went out the Tuesday and Wednesday before, and online.

Dude ... I wish I could have seen Raiders in IMAX. Great list man!

I liked TDKR, but I think that looking back on it a month later, I'd give it a 7/10. It's easily the weakest of the three films IMO. Good, but not the greatness I expected.

@ klinteastwood - yeah, deciding whether sons/boardwalk should be at 4/5 was the most difficult.
1/2 are pretty much tied for 1...that was hard to decide too.

Steven Spielberg: great filmmaker. No shame in that. Just started LOST and am already hooked.
This must have been an amazing month for you with all the Batman :)

awesome to see 6 and 7 on there. And I'm with what JohnLocke said earlier (even though I don't remember the movies in detail that well) about Indy 1-3 being a trilogy and the fourth movie being the start of a new trilogy.

Good call with Lincoln, I'm not sure why we've seen almost nothing from it so far.
^Yeah I can't wait to see a trailer for it...I'm sure we'll get one really soon. So stoked to see Day-Lewis in the title role.... and just a great cast, and of course Steven fucking Spielberg at the helm.
nice! He was great as Vincent and I absolutely LOVED The Last Samurai, he was fantastic in that. And I mean come on, Maverick -- nuff said.

Watched Alien, Aliens, and Prometheus twice this month as well...it was definitely an Alien and Wes Anderson filled month.
1 and 3 are two of my favorite comedies of all time. High Anxiety and Silent Movie are both worth your time. History of the World was okay, not Mel's best. Life Stinks is the least funniest of his that I've seen, but I still got some laughs out of it.

"The trick, William Potter is not minding it hurts."
Gotta say, PROMETHEUS really makes me wanna see LAWRENCE OF ARABIA now.
^Great film! Really hope it gets released on blu ray soon. Just saw it for the first time a couple years ago, and seen it probably 4 times since.

After a 2nd viewing, I have a feeling that Prometheus score will probably get bumped up to a 9.

There are SO many great characters. I'm going to wait until the finale before I make my list, because I don't know exactly where they're going to cut this season off
^True about the quantity of characters, I forgot to put Tywin in mine!!
I was gonna do a list like this but thought better of it as I was going to go by the books and didn't wanna imply spoilers BUT I think I'll copy yours after the finale and just do it based off the show after each season! Win. Win. Good list btw.

woo hoo for #5, my pick is starting to catch on! ;)
too bad they've already 'casted' the role... would've liked to have seen another actor come in instead of just melding the role with another... oh well

^Oh it's a good one! 2 British soldiers, also con men (played by Sean Connery and Michael Caine), leave the Army and go on sort of a quest to Kafiristan and swindle them of their riches. It's based on a short story by Rudyard Kipling. (Christopher Plummer plays Kipling in the movie).
Here's the IMDb page: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0073341/

God i love me some Life Aquatic..ive never seen Bottle Rocket though

Nice rankings dude.. my bottom 3 would look similar.. I'm glad Sansa will start tonight in the same place her character was at the end of the first season.. that will bump her up my season 2 list for sure.
Yeah Sansa definitely redeemed herself by the end of the season. Can't wait for the premiere tonight!
I've only seen the extended cut of Gladiator and though it was great. Also, if you loved the first Paradise Lost, you're really going to love the next two.
^^Paradise Lost was a disturbing, but insightful and intriguing documentary. I've been meaning to watch them for quite some time now. The second one should be arriving on my netflix on tuesday.

Dude's a BEAST on film. My personal favorite has to be Jack Burton.
I have a very good feeling Ace Woody (Django Unchained) will be making the list, this time next year :)

Brilliant list with a ton of absolute classics.
Nothing better than a rainy day, the LOTR extended blu-rays and a giant cup of coffee...

everything on this list sounds incredible.. i wanna share a brew with ya bud

The first 5 mins. of Adventures in Babysitting TOTALLY won me over with Chris Parker

Based on a list by justbink07
Have Not Seen: Shame, Green Lantern, Jack & Jill, Friends with Benefits, Twilight: Breaking Dawn, Melancholia, Puss in Boots, Winnie the Pooh, Martha Marcey May Marlene, Beginners, or My Week with Marilyn.
For Best DVD/Blu, I would have picked LOTR, I love them more than Star Wars, but the packaging for The Complete Saga was damn cool.
we have A LOT of the same picks. Nice to see a schmoe with a similar taste
I really didn't like Catfish, and I really question it's legitimacy as a real documentary.
^^Was it ever proven if it was/wasn't a real doc? Yeah it did feel more like a movie just using the documentary approach like Cloverfield or REC. I admit I was pretty intrigued at first then it just became a dissapointment.
I love seeing Costner in movies and made some really good movies. My favorite is JFK but it's such a shame he's not going to be in Django.
^^Love Kurt Russell and and glad he's in it, but I was REALLY looking forward to seeing Costner in Django.
1. = ugh. 2. ; ) 3. = classic 4.= oh my... 5. WOW! my fave! 9. thumbs up! 10. ehhh
YEAHHH, Same 1 and 2 here man. Love those movies and characters. Big Gulps eh? allrightt, well see ya later!
oddly enough, I decided to pop in Ace Ventura 2 today. Total ka-winky dink.
There were quite a number of really enjoyable movies this year. Good stuff man.

TDKR, The Hobbit, and Prometheus are pretty much all tied for my #1. My level of anticipation for those 3 films couldn't be any higher.
Ohhh, I forgot to put THE MASTER and SEVEN PSYCHOPATHS. At least I think The Master is coming out in 2012...hopefully.
can't wait for Prometheus either! Wouldn't doubt if it got right up there on my top 3 either
@lordtyler - number 7!
I can't believe I forgot about Kingdom of Heaven. I would put it as #6 or 7 probably, pushing Body of Lies out of the top 10. (I've always wanted to see the director's cut.)
@lordtyler - Have you seen Matchstick Men?

Based on a list by wallcrawler383
I need to play Twisted Metal Black. It must be torture though to have Arkham City and Uncharted just sitting there waiting. The agony!!
He was incredible in This Boy's Life. I consider Titanic a low point in his career.
^^I still need to see that one. It's been on my netflix queue for a long time now.
This Boys Life is one of his best, great acting all around in that film

^^Thanks! It was one epic October.
@horrorfan23 - I really enjoyed it. Savini's effects were awesome. Great slasher flick. It was funny to see a young Jason Alexander too.

Love that you put tentative. I did this last year and I think about half the list changed. =)
Dammit I forgot to put the Monster Squad on my list. Luckily I left space for it.

Lord of the Rings was part of the 3-night theatrical event with special introductions by Peter Jackson. I've never experienced SO MUCH cheering in a theater before, especially with Return of the King! It was such an awesome experience!

North by Northwest is mine.. with some Rear Window and Vertigo thrown in.. great list!
I must have seen North By Northwest at least 20 times and it never gets old. Strangers on a train is amazing and probably my favorite.

A lot of good stuff in this list man. also I shoulda thought of adding 50-54.

Based on a list by Psycho-Pirate-99
excellent choices dude. good call on monsters inc. that door chase sequence makes it worth it by itself

Yes! Totally agree on your #1 but.. you're not a fan of Star Tours? I would also add Space Mountain
^^I do love Star Tours and Space Mountain but they would be my #11 and 12.
I still haven't gone on it with the holiday retro-fit they do for Halloween. Want to so badly...

Braveheart.. one of my all time favorites.. that picture is incredible.

I dig it, but may have subbed The Mist, Clerks II, Rambo for Rounders, The Aviator and Kill Bill 2.

Awesome Six Feet Under that was an amazing ending, i'm not ashamed to admit it but it made me cry

you could've stopped at number 3 and it woulda been complete. great list.
Yes, HELL yes, maybe, yes, seen it, OH yes, maybe, FUCK yes, yes, and probably not.
Sitting through 2001 at home was a challenge for me. Not sure I could do a theater viewing.
I got to see the digital re-release of Back to the Future last October for the 25th anniversary.
I saw T2 and Braveheart in theaters back in the day.
Watchmen! wow i completely forgot. yeah that should definitely be on the list.

Depp totally got screwed over the year he was up for an Oscar for Ed Wood

Bruce Campbell baby!!!
Too bad it's totally possible... but that means the actual movie will have to be a lot different than what we expect/enjoy from him...
100% agree with numbers 4, 5, 6 and 8 as well. Hell yeah!

Good rankings! I was never a big fan of Hook, but I loved Dustin Hoffman's performance in it.
Dude, great list! Surprised at how far down the list Schindler's List is tho. And Minority Report IS a sci-fi masterpiece. It didn't get near the amount of love it should have. Hell, I'd have ranked that near top 3. You forgot Munich, btw. It was a taught, thrilling example of Spielbergian story-telling at its very best. If you want, you can swap out Catch Me if You Can for Munich and I won't tell anyone. ;) Anybody else miss the Spielberg that made these movies? Where has that guy been hiding, eh? The Terminal!? WTF?! He needs to step it up! Somebody send him this list and remind him of what he's capable.
Munich is awesome. Spielberg's made so many damn great movies that it's hard to squeeze them down into a top 10. Gotta give love to Empire of the Sun, Amistad, and The Color Purple too. Amazing movies.

is mountains in production yet? or is he still helping on haunted mansion? sorry, that dude is all over the place...great list though!
@paranoidburger. don't think it's green lit just yet. but yeah, del toro is all over the place with his projects.

THE WIRE and THE SOPRANOS are incredible .
