The Walking Dead might finally be worthy of the company it keeps on AMC after that last episode.

Probably gonna catch flack for this, but I think Highlander needs to be rebooted. The first flick rocked pretty hard, but everything after it sucked. Yes, there can be only one, but I really think that in the right hands Highlander could be something special and meaningful rather than a relic of 80's cheese.

Agreed. It was a great movie in a cheesy way but it has total potential to be a FANTASTIC movie.

There's such a solid grounding and mythology for something truly spectacular it'd be a shame to let it rot. The idea of the Highlander is a good one and it needs to be applied to a more timeless setting and film.

Top 10 Characters on Television (Past or Present and in No Particular Order)

1. Walter White (Breaking Bad) - The epitomy of a changed man, Bryan Cranston continually impresses with his deep and wholly relatable character.
2. Omar Little (The Wire) - Another paragon of ambiguity, he turned "The Farmer In The Dell" into a death rattle. Chilling, effective and with a very real touch.
3. Tobias Funke (Arrested Development) - Choosing one of the actors only from this show is sort of a tragedy but make no mistake, if there is one clear standout it's Tobias.
4. Admiral Adama (Battlestar Galactica) - Edward James Olmos' career defining role, without question. His character's arc is absolutely sublime, and his characterization is so methodical and precise that even on multiple re-watches the series gains an air of class with his mere presence.
5. Tyrion Lannister (Game of Thrones) - Yes, he gets a lot of praise, but Dinklage deserves it. He makes the Imp come alive in a way few could.
6. George Costanza (Seinfeld) - Here's another situation where all four leads are pitch perfect, but George inches above them all. The way Alexander makes you feel for this horrible, pathetic, roundabout despicable human being is absolutely hysterical and a perfect balance of what comedy should be all about.
7. Monty Python (Monty Python's Flying Circus) - I know this is cheating but there isn't one piece of the Pythons that isn't absolutely necessary and brilliant. From the fish slapping dance to the dirty fork sketch, this is the gold standard for comedy.
8. Number Six (The Prisoner) - Prior to this show, I knew Patrick McGoohan as Edward the Longshanks from Braveheart and loved his evil character in that. The Prisoner proved to me that he was a natural talent. Number Six is someone who will not conform to whom he sees as the enemy at any cost. Some elements of the show come across as a little hokey, but the core themes of control and freedom in the face of oppression are clearly grounded in Number Six's journey, and I love him for that.
9. Ari Gold (Entourage) - While his character and the show as a whole really were betrayed by the ending, I absolutely loved Ari despite the shit situations and plot devices he had to navigate near the end. Ari's quips and cracks are the stuff of legend, weaving a "tapestry of obscenity" that is both beautiful and hilarious.
10. Larry David (Curb Your Enthusiasm) - Simply put, Larry David is a character unto himself. His ability to mine comedy from topics ranging from Michael J. Fox's Parkinson's Disease to having children mistake his water bottle for a bulge demonstrates a range of skill and writing that is mostly unheard of nowadays.

Deliver Us from Evil

2006-deliver_us_from_evil-1

Directed by: Amy Berg
Written by: Amy Berg
Cast: Adam, Jeff Anderson, Pope Benedict XVI, Monsignor Cain, Case Degroot
Studio: Lions Gate
Genre: Documentary, Crime
Official Site:
Plot: Documentary about Father Oliver O'Grady, a Catholic priest who was relocated to various parishes around the United States during the 1970s in an attempt by the Catholic Church to cover up his rape of dozens of children.

Review:

Unsettling and bizarre in a very horrific way, this is an essential piece of documentary filmmaking. The main story of Oliver O'Grady's charges of molestation, coupled with the inclusion of many of his victims and the way it effected their lives, is fascinating and dark on multiple levels. Quite simply, I can't believe this man can admit to all of these horrible things he's done with a straight, smug smile on his face. I'm a severe skeptic when it comes to my own religion and beliefs, and I will say that this piece has helped me affirm my stance against the insanity of organized religion, but the psychological breakdown from all angles of all parties involved in this extended ordeal is revealing and disgusting...[more]...

The Hunger Games

Hunger-games-lawrence-poster

Directed by: Gary Ross
Written by: Billy Ray
Cast:
Studio: Lionsgate
Genre: Thriller
Official Site:
Plot: Set in a future where the Capitol selects a boy and girl from the twelve districts to fight to the death on live television, Katniss Everdeen volunteers to take her younger sister's place for the latest match.

Review:

Here's a great example of a well made, good looking and entertaining film that did absolutely nothing for me. I don't hate this movie and I applaud the fact that if this is the next craze, at least it's a well made story with believable characters and situations to enjoy, rather than a certain sparkly vampire series. I think my biggest problem is that I'm not the target market here. I've seen The Running Man, Battle Royale and countless other "hunt humans for sport" films and the problem is this is a one-note plot device. While I think the film was well made and entertaining I found myself bored and predicting every move the film made. Jennifer Lawrence is great as a strong, assertive female lead, almost polar opposite to most other actresses in her age bracket. Visually the film had a strange mix of grass roots meets neon Mad Max/Logan's Run that I found more distracting than anything else. I just find myself wanting to hate this film more than like it, and it has a lot to do with the fact that I feel a little ticked off that something like this has been done to death before. That being said, this is not a bad film. The action was poorly shot, but that's my only technical gripe. I just wasn't interested in any of the characters or the typical story.

Despite the fact that that little lying shitturd Damon Lindelof wrote the script, Prometheus looks real solid and exactly what I've needed out of sci-fi since Children of Men

I have some strong feelings about how Lost was presented to us. It is my firm belief that when he assured me as an audience member that they had a plan and that they would wrap up the story well, he was lying through his teeth. I've never been more let down by anything than the Lost finale. And then, he has the balls to shit-talk the Star Wars prequels because we "Knew how that was going to end". Well I'm no prequel fan, but at least Lucas ended the fucking story with something at least palatable.

...

Sorry, Lost really upset me, I get carried away.

Kill List was pretty tough to get into. Then when the incredibly obvious ending came, with little to no explanation as to the whys, I was pretty upset/pissed-off, so no, I do not recommend this film.

I guess I'm in the minority in saying that Nostalgia Critic is a fucking moron. I agree with his choices of shit films, but he's just annoying.

He's pretty hit or miss with me. Sometimes his reviews are really funny and make good points and his overthetop character is really good. But other times it's definitely annoying. Like sorry I don't want to watch a fucking 26 minute video of The Grinch where every line of his review is rhyme.

So fucking excited. Not only did the Pats get lucky and win last night but I was there to experience it. The roar of the crowd, tension in the air, and drunk fat men surrounding me was as unique an experience as I've ever had, truly one of the best nights ever.

Paradise Lost 3 solidified the entire trilogy as, in my personal opinion, the finest and most important American documentary in history. A true masterpiece of not only cinema but of American storytelling. I implore everyone who hasn't to catch up and see the films.
