Overall, I liked it, I had a decent time with it but there are some issues I have with it.

The humor was way OVERdone. Some of it hit but some of it was telegraphed from a mile away. Basically they needed to throw a joke somewhere in there everytime and it became tiresome. The music was a letdown compared to the original. I don't remember one song (maybe because it was more obscure but even those that I do know, I couldn't tell you at what point of the film it was played).

I'll give them a unique structure to the film, making it a character piece. I liked that. The characters are still phenomenal, although Rocket was way less enjoyable this time around. Star-Lord also wasn't as fun and Nebula, even though she had a great development to her, is still just played terribly by Gillian. But the others were better than last time. Gamorra, Drax, Baby Groot (he's the cutest) and Yondu. I liked the inclusion of the Sovereign (mostly because, I really wanted to bang a chick in that gold make-up) and Kurt Russell as Ego is great casting. Btw I have to mention how great the de-aging technology is in this film. It looked really great and I bought it completelly (although they stuck with Kurt's current facial shape so he still looks different than he did 35 years ago). Oh, and Mantis is cute... on the inside.

However, the film does not own some of the pay-offs at the end.

The "Yondu being Quill's dad" bit felt way underdeveloped since it's mostly talk and there's no exploration of it. I think the film needed to show Quill's teenage years on board of Yondu's ship to make it work.

Also, since the mother is only mentioned in this film, I also didn't feel that big of a connection as I should have when we learn that Ego gave her cancer. There's a great comedic reaction for Quill but I guess such a revelation needed a stronger emotional impact

It doesn't help that the main theme of the film is something that's been finally done to death just this year by Fast and Furious.

Also the action is pretty inconsistent. Sometimes it's really good, especially during the opening and the prison break, and sometimes it's WAY overstuffed visually (the climax) or just plain ridiculous and not as funny as they wanted (the forrest fight).
