I've just seen it. I'm pretty positive about it overall but definitely not blown away. Although the ending really does bring it close to being amazing. It has a phenomenal third act, which is hard to say about many films. Usually, films tend to dip at the end but not Edwards's. As Godzilla also amazed near the end. The problems lie in the beginning, some editing and pacing issues as well but overall it's a very good action film for this year's standards and a solid film in general. I'd give it a 7/10...[more]...

I loved the ending and the concepts of aliens in this film. What I had problems with is the science. From my understanding the characters are living in modern times and not some dystopian future where every country is at conflict with each other? So it felt really strange to me, as a linguist, to communicate with aliens with many different languages instead of unifying it. Plus they made China into these sort of idiots. China has a far better relationship with the west than in the film now, let alone during an alien visit when uniting is the only logical way of action...[more]...
I've finished the third season and it's got some real gems. I guess it's the most uneven thus far but that was to be expected in the longest season. However, the highs are masterpieces of TV and the lows are still ok. If I had to rank the series I'd say:
it's very on the nose but eerily familiar. I guess I know too many people who live their lives like that right now. It really struck a cord and BDH gives a fantastic performance. I belive this is the episode the series will be remembered for but cause it can resonate the most with people.
2) San Junipero
This one however is a beautiful side of technology and were it can lead. I fell in love with the characters, the 80's setting, the nostalgia and Gugu (Is she confirmed for SW Ep VIII?). it's the only episode that actually made me cry.
3) White Christmas
I'm still wondering whether it's number two. It was just heartbreaking to see this technology and how overused it can get. The ending is basically a death sentence
4) Fifteen Million Merits
It reminded me of my favorite book, Ready Player One. The whole concept is probably the most out there of the series but it's still really fascinating.
5) The National Anthem
I guess it's topical now more than ever with what's going on in politics and people's perspective on them. There's some tragedy to it, some wish fullfilment and the fallout is obvious yet shocking when you actually see it.
6) Shut up and Dance
Oh, how our perception can change. At first you question the boy's arc, you think it's not that bad to risk so much and then... The twist comes out of nowhere, because the concept was good thus far, it didn't need any extra flavor, but when they added it, it made the episode that much better.
7) Hated in the Nation
So much great stuff going on here. Internet trolling, enviromental issues, moral conundrums. All of it is a bit exaggerated at times but makes for a really effective thriller with a real gut-punch ending towards which the build up was really great.
8) Be Right Back
Alright, if you have Hayley Atwell in a sex scene, i'm already sold. I'm a simple man, what can I say. But this is an another highly emotional episode as well. The concept is thrilling but creepy at the same time.
9) White Bear
Another twist episode but this one was to be expected. The whole episode builds to finding out what happened and yet, one would never figure out this would be the outcome. It's also an episode with great tension and actual horror moments.
10) The Entire History of You
This was an emotional gem in the first season but with better episodes, related to relationship and love came later, this one kind of lost its luster to me. It's still really good, with a great performance from Toby Kebbell (top 3 of the series).
11) The Waldo Moment
Another episode that becomes more relevant with time. It was my least favorite when I first saw it, but I started to find a new appreciation for it. The manipulation, populism is oh so on the point right now. Who knows, maybe it will go down again in the future, I hope so. But so far, it really hits and I fear the trajectory might go up instead.
It's still a really good episode but I guess it doesn't have that much to say on technology and how it influences us. I really liked the horror moments, they're really effective, which is not a shock coming from a big fan of 10 CL. But I guess Trachtenberg got the least to work with and yet still made it enjoyable, in large part thanks to Wyatt Russell. After this, 22 JS and Everybody Got Some, I'm pretty sure this guy is going places. He's extremely likable.
13) Men Against Fire
Like I said, I thought Waldo would be my least favorite but this one actually takes the cake. The frustrating thing about it is that it actually had something interesting to say but the execution didn't deliver. The twist was predictable, the drama non-engaging and the entire episode felt like a letdown. Especially when it's right after San Junipero.
As for the seasons themselves, I'd go: 2 > 3 > 1

I've just finished the whole thing. It's really solid and more than just a nostalgia porn as I feared it might be. I really enjoyed Winona's performance, she was definitely the emotional core of the show. Hopper was also a great character and the final episode, his personal victory and his sacrifices really highlight that.
The kids are also good, Gaten being my favorite. However, I also think the relationships of the older kids are really underrated. You think they're becoming cliche and yet they still try to do something more interesting with it.
I have two less popular thoughts as well:
1) My favorite character was actually the teacher, Mr Clarke. That's mainly because we share the same profession but also because he and his knowledge are an unknowing hero of the story. I think it was a nice touch.
2) I REALLY don't get the Barb hype. First of all, other than the men is suits villians she is the only walking cliche on the show. And she also feels like a moody dick. Being mad at her friend for having some beer?
