I haven't watched the Emmys (I heard it was really bad) but I'm really glad with the winners. Donald Glover, Handmaiden's Tale and especially SAN JUNIPERO and BIG LITTLE LIES all deserved to win some prizes. Naturally I haven't seen A LOT of their competition (it's impossible to keep up with all the content right now) but I really loved Big Little Lies and I'm happy it got the recognition. The only thing I'd change is to give best movie to Nosedive instead of Junipero (both are great though) and Reese the Best Actress award, instead of Nicole. Again, both were great but it was Reese who dominated the screen everytime she was on.

Review:

I really loved a lot about it. But one must know before seeing it, that it's not really a horror. It's a coming-of-age movie with scary elements. It's very much like Stand By Me and, of course, Stranger Things. But it's also more insightful psychologically, delving deeper into the "horrors" of growing up, which are materialized by IT...[more]...

Sooo, it's JJ. Good choice, really solid! I just hope he'll deliver on the promises of The Force Awakens and further deveops the new characters. His love for the franchise is beyond doubt.

Counting only the three best movies in each series

LelekPL updated his STATUS: 10 days ago

I'm seeing It tomorrow but today I've seen Little Evil from the director of Tucker and Dale vs Evil. It's really solid, guys. Not as good as his previous one and doesn't really nail the premise but it's fun with a great message and metphor. The kid is great in this.

On Stranger Tides – ?
Dead Men Tell No Tales – ?

Twilight: - 12/30 (40%)
Twilight – 5/10
New Moon – 3/10
Eclipse – 4/10
Breaking Dawn Part 1 – ?
Breaking Dawn Part 2 – ?

I'll also make a ranking based on only the three best films, which is more fair for franchises with a larger number of films and it actually represents my opinion on what the best franchises really are more adequatly.

Agree with a lot of the rankings, but The Fellowship of the Ring? Gets a 10/10 c'mon!?

LelekPL
LelekPL at 05:52 PM Sep 11

^ LOTR is that franchise for me. I'm impressed by some of it but it's really a chore to sit through, except for the first two films in both trilogies, which are pretty entertaining "going on an adventure" films.

I know I'm in the minority on this but everybody has a franchise like that. LOTR is mine.

And thanks for the comments ;)

Jeepers Creepers 3 and what do you think?

Sooo, Jeepers Creepers 3 is coming up. I really enjoyed the early installments but I gotta say I will not support this movie and its pedophile director with my money. It's a tough decision, especially with properties or entertainment you enjoy, but I think it's a moral necessity in such circumstances. I do the same with Polanski, Allen, Jackson and now also Brian Singer (I know they were never convicted as opposed to Silva, and there's a small chance they are/were innocent but c'mon, when there's so much smoke...).

I'm not saying you shouldn't differentiate betwen the artist and his art but this is a special circumstance of a truly vile actions. I don't want to drag Mel Gibson into this because his name doesn't belong in this group of people but he's another example people like to bring up in these sort of discussions. Mostly because most people truly enjoy his work as an actor and director. And you could say it's hypocritical to forgive certain artists bad things only because their better artists than others. But for me it's not about that, it's a more case by case basis and the type of crime truly matters. I can forgive some things, I won't forgive others. No matter how much I like the X-Men films or Thriller.

I will watch and listen to them for free, though ;)

How about you guys?

WOW I didn't know that about the director.

BATeMAN
BATeMAN at 04:29 PM Sep 07

I also never knew this about the director. I love JC1 and JC2. And will now be weird knowing this when revisiting the films. How is he still able to work in Hollywood as a convicted child molester, that's fucked up, someone else should direct JC3

So, if i buy it you wouldn't mind borrowing my copy? : )

In other firing news: Johan Johansson will NOT be scoring Blade Runner 2049 after all. Zimmer & Wallfisch will take his place It's actually great timing to announce this. Just when the world is freaking out about Trevorrow, this will fly under the radar. Plus, they already have a competent (better) replacement.

My picks for Episode IX directors

1. STEVEN SPIELBERG

---------------------------------------------------------

Other outsider picks that would be a good fit:
- Alfonso Cuaron (his visual skill and has CG and franchise experience, gets great performances from actors),
- Miguel Sapochnik (fantasy and franchise experience, directed the best battle sequence in YEARS),
- Brad Bird (that Disney flavor and a talent for action scenes),
- Duncan Jones (sci-fi talent in the mold of Johnson),
- Damian Chazelle (visually talented but also has the musical background to work with Star Wars and Williams, gets great performances from actors),
- James Wan (very talented at creating tense scenes and action and can work within a different franchise),
- Joseph Kosinsky (visually and musically talented, needs a good script)

Obvious choices like Nolan, Tarantino, Fincher or Sorcese aren't good fits for the Episodic movies. Original idea anthology films are a different story!

Great choices, if it did end up being Spielberg it would kind of feel like a culmination of things. I really like the idea of Jones, Bird, and Cuaron. I included them in my list of replacement directors for Trevorrow a while back.

2017 So Far

1. Favorite- Logan
2. Worst movie - Three-way tie between xXx 3, Kong Skull Island and Alien: Covenant
3. Biggest Surprise - after 2016 I'd never have guessed that I would enjoy so many comic book movies
4. Best performance - Hugh Jackman in Logan
5. Missed and want to still want to see - Detroit, Wind River, Logan Lucky, It Comes At Night and American Made
6. Missed but in no huge hurry to see - Ghost in the Shell, The Bye Bye Man
7. There's still a shit ton I'm looking forward to - Blade Runner 2049, Hostiles, The Post, Mute, The Last Jedi, The Snowman, The Current War and It (to name a few)
8. Movies I have no interest in: Transformers The Last Knight, Captain Underpants, Pirates of the Carribean and Power Rangers
9. Game of Thrones: Other than Logan it was the best thing to watch all year long
10. Final thoughts: The year started amazing but the summer was pretty weak. I have high hopes for the end of the year though with Spielberg, PTA, Blade Runner and Star Wars still coming up

Good summary man. I forgot Detroit and American Made, still want to see those. The year definitely got off to a good start, for me this summer was just similar to every other year. It had blockbusters that either I did or didn't want to see. The fall is always the season I most look forward to for movies.
