Piranha is a great little B-horror film. And just like most great b-horror, its got a great sense of humor. It knows how absurd its premise is, and just runs with it to the bitter end.
I'd have to say that the film is a bit dated. Mostly just in the pace of the film. It starts off incredibly slow with dry patches of outdated humor throughout, but once the bloody finale begins the film really leaves its mark on you. The momentum the film builds with its horrific climax is really not like any other film, in that it leaves you wanting to watch the film again immediately following the credits.
The acting is pretty standard and story is simple enough, but Dante really shows what great capabilities he has with this film. Some incredibly creative and shocking shots throughout the film keep things from coming to a screeching halt, as they truly could have in the hands of any other filmmaker.

Pretty good in my opinion. Despite being dated it has a charm.
