In this 80's action thriller, John McTiernan takes the terror of Alien and blends it with the action of Rambo to create a beast all of its own. The plot is simple enough, but you're likely here for the action. And when it comes to action in the 80's, the combination of Schwarznegger and McTiernan is unbeatable.
But what makes this film so involving is the characters. There's no award worthy performances, but theyr'e still far ahead of the curve when it comes to action films. Each character has at least a little humour or sensability to them that brings you to feeling as if you're out in the jungle with this group meeting them as you're tyring to survive.
The final showdown is what makes this film legendary. To see Arnold helpessly running through the woods, making traps like some kind of warrior boy scout builds so much tension that you feel as if you're going to self detonate at the film's climax.
