I love Adam Sandler. Its painful to see such a seemingly nice and hilarious guy in such painfully unfunny films as he's put out this past decade. I was really hoping that Grown Ups might turn over a new leaf in his career, but this really isn't the case. Grown Ups is another cringe worthy, middle school class comedy. The so called "Grown Ups" in this film spend nearly the entirity of the feature acting like 13 year olds who think they're the funniest people they've ever known. Sadly, the longer the film goes on the more it seems like they aren't really acting at all and this may be in fact how these guys act all the time. Which is just sad.
Even more painful than the forced laughs and incredibly lame brain humour is how cheesey and unnatural the "heartfelt" moments of the film come across. Sandler's an incredibly talented dramatic performer but these kind of moments don't really match up with the dumb comedy going on here. They just feel so unnatural and awkward that I felt like I was watching one of the clips from Funny People of the Merman movie or one of those other satirically terrible family films.
Schneider, Spade, Rock, and James don't really add much here either. Nor do the wives. They're just filling up poster space to sell you another dissapointingly pointless exercise in bad comedy from Happy Madison.

I completely agree with your review, as I do most of the time. Why the 6/10 rating though? Just curious.
