I was just told that the issue of Cineplex Magazine (only available in Canada as far as I know) is now out. Check it out if you're interested!

Holy shapes, I just realized you're the dude who does all those fantastic paintings. Great work, m'man!
I'll be doing a painting with a bunch of gangsters and mafia types soon, and it needs to have an Italian bar/restaurant setting. Anyone know of any movies with that type of location that I should check out?
Yeah, I like the look of the bar/hangout from when we first meet Jimmy Conway early in the movie, it's a little dirtier. That other place with Pesci is good too. I think I want something that looks a little seedy.
How about Cosmo Vitelli's strip club (the Crazy Horse West) from THE KILLING OF A CHINESE BOOKIE?

Not exactly an Italian bar/restaurant, and maybe a little TOO seedy for your needs, but definitely a seedy movie setting/hangout with mob ties that could potentially serve as home to gangster characters (especially if you wanted to portray a more hostile presence). I feel like you could do good stuff with the lighting seen in the Youtube clip and that spiral staircase at about the 0:45 mark.
This is an excellent suggestion. It's important to me that these gangsters are seen as hostile, even if it's just reflected in the atmosphere around them. Not sure if the actual setting is appropriate to what I'll be going for, but the red lighting is something I'm going to keep in mind.

Oops. I meant the issue I was interviewed for is now out.
