Not cool, Klosterman

Klosterman

I have absolutely loved everything Chuck Klosterman has written up to now. 'Eating the Dinosaur' is the first one that gives off kind of a douchey vibe. He gives the impression he can barely tolerate conversations with 'common' folk any more, and even though he references his readers a lot, it seems he would barely look up from his espresso if he ever met you.

Loved his stuff on time travel, Nirvana, Ralph Sampson, etc. - this is the reason I devour Klosterman's writing - but his anger at being labelled a 'pop culture hipster' is starting to become an arrogance towards the unwashed masses who can't understand him. The worst is when he admits to giving bullshit answers during interviews, for no reason except to appease his boredom.

Here's a tip, Chuck: Don't give interviews if you hate them so much. Your book sales may plummet, but you'll apparently be happier.

Here's hoping he gives his head a shake for the next book.

Not buying it, King

Simpsons-movie-dome-1

Stephen King was on Canada's 'The Hour' last night pimping 'Under the Dome.' When host George Stoumboulopoulos asked him the inevitable Simpsons question, King said he had no idea what the movie was about.

I find this impossible to believe. King is no idiot, he writes a pop culture column for Entertainment Weekly. How does he not know what the story is for The Simpsons Movie?

King's a strange dude. Whenever I read his columns in EW, it feels like he's trying act like a teenager or something. Weird...

The Strain

Strain

It only took four months, but I finally finished 'The Strain' - Book One of Guillermo Del Toro and Chuck Hogan's new vampire trilogy.

Slow-going at the start with the airport stuff, but it's necessary to establish all the crazy shit that comes later. The last 100 pages are truly intense. A cool combo of 'I Am Legend' and Del Toro's own 'Blade II' (the UVC mines are back).

Cannot wait for Del Toro to do the obvious here and make the movies. It'll take something like this to redeem vampires after 'Twilight' has run its course.

I have this sitting right next to my bed, but I've yet to come around to reading it.... Glad to hear that it's a good read...

Paranormal Activity DVD - You Might Be In It

Pact1

Just read the Paramount press release that says everyone who fell for the gimmick took part in their promotion and requested the movie for their city will get their name mentioned in the DVD credits.

About one million people took part. Leading me to wonder ... how can a DVD cram a million names onto the credits, without requiring slo-mo and a magnifying glass?

The Decade's Best TV

I pretty much agree with everything on this list (despite a few huge omissions), I just resent this recent trend of downgrading The Sopranos. I think this stems from the vocal detractors of the finale, who forget the utter brilliance of what preceded it.

http://www.pastemagazine.com/blogs/lists/2009/11/the-20-best-tv-shows-of-the-decade.html

My own Top 20:

1. The Sopranos
2. Six Feet Under
3. Lost
4. The Shield
5. Battlestar Galactica

6. Survivor
7. The Wire
8. Friday Night Lights
9. The Office
10. Arrested Development
11. Freaks & Geeks
12. Mad Men
13. South Park
14. Dexter
15. The Late Show w/ Conan O'Brien
16. Deadwood
17. 30 Rock
18. Entourage
19. Veronica Mars
20. Rescue Me
