#3 & #19 A cinephile finds the notables of yesteryear. Gung Ho and Electric Dreams are both rather good. And, many folks have forgotten about them.
#13 Thanks for highly recommending The Place Beyond the Pines. Everyone is stating that it is outstanding. I might see it this afternoon.
#5 & #11 Both of these are good stuff. Watching both comedies and thrillers provides balance and is the only healthy life decision that one needs consider in life.
You seem to have had a cerebrally productive April.

I'VE NEVER SEEN IT!!! Seriously, I've never seen any of the Halloween movies.

I like 28 Weeks later better than the original. Mainly because of Jeremy and Rose.
@Cochise: I still haven't seen 5 yet but If you say it's good, I'll give it a chance.
@Zo!: They were my main reasons for liking it too. I didn't know what to expect because I remembering enjoying the original but it was a nice surprise.

Cheers kept people laughing and entertained for many, many years. People loved the show so much that they opened Cheers taverns around the nation, as you know. Furthermore, people reference the show often, so a person might as well see where certain common quips got their start.

#6 & 25 Dumb & Dumber and Ghostbusters are good choices for young viewers. They are kind of juvenile, and they are kind of dirty. They are just dirty enough to be a good transition between kids' movies and R-rated fare. Airplane! was that movie for our generation.
#18 Coming to America is one that the whole family can enjoy. I know that, as a teenager, my parents and their kids enjoyed the theatre trip to see Murphy's masterpiece.
#13 Don't forget The Great Outdoors. Too many people have. But, it is one funny film. Summer Rental is another John Candy vehicle worth showing the family.
#23 The Breakfast Club is interesting. One wonders. Does it speak only to Gen Xers? Or, does it have universal appeal?
^I was born in '92 and I've loved The Breakfast Club since I was a kid. I've known younger people that like the movie as well. Plus, the movie seems to be popular enough that I believe it still has an audience because what the kids deal with in that movie are problems anyone at a high school age can relate to.

All these are fantastic, but I would never head to Merlotte's. People get killed WAY too often there. lol

LOL @ your last comment.
This is a great list. What's "More American Graffiti?" Is that a sequel?
I love a Bill Cosby fan. My favorite comedian ever.
I love The Parent Trap! Both the Lindsay and the Hayley Mills. I always dreamed of being a twin and trading places.
Rugrats - I loved them even more than my kids I think.
Yeah, More American Graffiti is a sequel that takes place a few years after the original American Graffiti. It's not bad.
I wanted to be a twin after seeing The Parent Trap or at least meet them in person.
Everybody loves Rugrats.

I forgot about Fresh. I remember enjoying that one because I used to watch it a lot on cable.

I really love this list. Glad to see you loved Kramer vs Kramer! So many good ones on here.

#11 - Greatest Big Love episode ever! Amanda Seyfried was amazing in it.
So many goodies! I love Grief counseling too, lol. Also 39, 32, 17, 7...
Have you ever gotten into Cheers? I think from this list that you would enjoy it if you don't already.

I used to hate her on Mad Men, but after watching the whole series, I kinda started to understand and like her character and the chemistry she has with her partner on screen.

She played Krusty's daughter?
I knew she was the gf on FG, no idea about the SIMPSONS guest spot.

It's weird how it swoops down like that and then takes off again, like it's some sort of UFO or something that's being controlled... I don't know... black Superman? lol you never know with Lost haha
But now that you mention it, maybe it is something. I mean it passes by right before the explosion. I never noticed that before and I've seen this pilot 3 times. I'm sure as we speak that there's an entire message board dedicated to this.

Fucking awesome cause I'm like 99% sure it's mine. Obviously I am Internet famous.
#10 Valley Girl had a lot of influence. Fast Times did as well. In general, Cage has been in influential movies, whether they be good ones or not. I admire his clout.
^ There's still movies of his I haven't seen but he's always an actor who entertains no matter what he's in. I saw on your list earlier that you had Raising Arizona at the top. I may need to revisit that sometime soon.

Sixty-three movies is simply exceptional. You have been living the life at two movies per day.
#6 Valley Girl: You are far ahead of me. I have never seen this one and ought to. Joyce Hyser is in it (who?).
#16 & #53 The Devil's Advocate and Superman II are essential genre viewing if a person is a genre fan. SII has a fight scene that people always remember and discuss.
#58 Burton's Batman is still good.
#21 & #30 The Haunting is a 3/10, and The Thing is an 8/10. One assumes that you watched the Neeson and Carpenter versions respectively.
#22 & #23 Not everyone gets into The Thin Red Line and Bram Stoker's Dracula. A person notices that trend. Then again, other people are huge fans of each film. Malick and Coppola must be complex directors.
#9 Cool! I've seen Comic Book Villains too. It is one only comic book fans will completely appreciate. But, Schmoes are probably comic geeks.
Your January was apparently well-spent enhancing your psyche.
First of all, I'm shocked at how many movies I watched but proud at the same time. Second, Valley Girl has Deborah Foreman and she falls in love with Nicolas Cage. It's one of those Romeo and Juliet type of love stories. You might like it. Finally, you are correct on #21 and #30. I should edit it to make it more clear.

5.! 1st time as host was the best!
3.!!!
1.!!!!!!! His best comedy film imo.
2.!
10.!
12.!
14.!
The Number 23
Man on the Moon
Ace Ventura 2 :When Nature Calls

Great list, love this girl. I still need to see (500)Days of summer.
Definitely worth seeing. Although her character is rather unlikable and that's a weird kind of role to see her in but she does a convincing job. I saw it at the theater for my birthday and had a good time with it.

Just started watching Mr. Show when it has been replayed on IFC. Pretty funny!
Great list
It's one of those rare sketch comedy shows where I actually laugh at every sketch even the least funniest ones. I've always watched it as a kid in edited versions but never got to see all the episodes. I finally got to see every episode two years ago on IFC and I had a ball with it.
Anyways, glad you like the list. Thank you.

How is it that I've never noticed Riley's back tattoo? That's weird. Great list!

American Dad is edgier this season than last. However, even more Americans need to watch it. With the edginess, American Dad is one keen comedy.
I like American Dad, more than Family Guy a lot of the time as well.

1, 2, 4, 5, 6, 8, and 9 were all great! Also, greatest GIF ever. I love her big monologue: "Accept your situation, you're a victim for life. So embrace it, use it. I know you care about your readers, all those little down-trouble fucks, that just need a light at the end of the tunnel so that they don't jump off a bridge."

1, 2, and 9 were fantastic! Glad to see Greenberg on your list. I've always enjoyed it and found it to be criminally underrated.

Step Brothers kills me. How many times can I be in hysterics over one movie? I never get tired of it.
Some great movies that year.
HTX - these lists are fun!
Thanks! If even one or two people get some enjoyment from these lists, then I've done my job. :)

I love The Darjeeling Limited and There Will be Blood.. great choices.

3 - just caught it for the first time not too long ago, so glad I finally checked it out. Great movie. Also, kind of intense for a 13 year old heh
1 - damn I always wanted to see that one, but Eisenberg is really holding me back...
3 - I was advanced for my age. lol
I highly recommend 1. Like there's a lot of Eisenberg and I can understand it but it's too good not to see. Jeff Daniels is really fantastic in it. But it's one of my personal favorites so obviously I'm biased haha.

good stuff man, good to see Legend, Rambo and Gremlins on there they'd def be up there for me if I'd thought of them! haha. I had to stop myself at 30 as I realized there are a TON of one word movies that I love haha, it just kept going and going... more than I thought
Big! Goonies! Extract! Hook! I forgot so many when I made my list. I also liked Rambo and Gladiator, but not favorites.

1. - I hope the ending doesn't disappoint you, it sure didn't for me. Nothing really tops that 1st season though, simply the best.

#2 Bad Santa speaks to a part of all of our psyches during the Christmas season. It is a comedy that is just being brutally honest.
#3 Thor got only a six, eh? Oh well. You liked the movie a little.
#16 Goodfellas deserves its reputation. That film has held-up over the years, and other films reference Goodfellas constantly. A moviefan has to see it and respect it.
#19 & 24 Out of Time and Ronin are both sixes. And, they deserve to be. They are good, and a person does not mind watching and enjoying.
#38 Which Cursed movie got a seven? Do you mean the one with Christina Ricci?
#39 Django Unchained merits the ten that you give it. It is the must-see of all of the must-sees currently playing the theatre.
You spent your December well.
@grelber: It was the Christina Ricci one, but the unrated version with more gore.

Season 5. So one more season to go. I'm happy that I'm going to get to the end of the story but sad at the same time.
Nice Hauls. I Can't wait to see that bootleg but of almost famous.
WA re: Edith. She really is adorable I so agree. She's my favorite! She's got spunk too.

oh man, so many great ones! 1,3,4,5,12,15,19,20 wowza!! Good to see you finally checked them out

Holy crap - I just saw where you put (pictured). I'm an idiot. Also tired lately. Really tired.
You should check it out. Alison Brie and Haley Joel Osment from the Sixth Sense are brother and sister. They live in the middle of nowhere away from any for m of society. The brother killed someone so they have to go on the run with their grandma. So they don't know how to live or communicate like regular human beings. It's a pretty funny and weird movie if you're into that sort of thing.
Dude - that sounds really good. I was interested because of Alison Bree but you really sold it now! Thank you.

@Anakin: I do watch it on YouTube, but I do have the first 9 seasons on VHS.
@Yoshio: She was on Gossip Girl last season, but she disappeared after that.

@OKC: Thanks.
@Rebellion: Great choice. I don't know how I forgot him. That's what happens sometimes when you make a list when you're really tired and you should be in bed.
@WA: I don't know what you're talking about, I said while my face turned red.

btw, whatever you decide remember there will be a big parade of costumes going on :D http://www.moviefancentral.com/randychico/blogs/2nd-annual-mfc-costume-contest

nice list man, well done! Haven't seen a bunch of these, have to check em out now.
Always loved 21's video. I love the songs for 11 and 12 but I didn't even know they had videos, cool!
Thanks! They used to show 11 and 12 late at night on MTV and VH1. You see, they still show music videos! You just got to be up at the time between 1am and 5am to see them.
@CriticalAcclaim: Yeah, it's a great one.
@Invidtus: It has Christopher Walken dancing and that automatically makes it one of the best.

2. Nice to see some love for Chace!
4. He is soo underrated.

I really need to see this version, my love for Zooey began here too.
I thought it was better than the theatrical version. Not that it was bad as that was already a great movie IMO, but this one adds so much more to the story. Guess we have something in common with Zooey.

So many great movies...Peter Sellers is brilliant in Dr. Strangelove. I still need to see 12 Angry Men!
Definitely check out Gone With the Wind, Lawrence of Arabia, Citizen Kane, Rear Window, Vertigo, (pretty much any Hitchcock film), It's a Wonderful Life, The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly, and To Kill a Mockingbird if you haven't already.
I actually saw Citizen Kane on DVD and didn't like it, but I do want to give it a second chance. I'll try to check out the other ones.
great list man!
gonna try to see if I can do my own, top 10 at least. The trouble with a lot of these for me is that I know that I've seen them, but really don't remember much of them enough to judge where they would be for me haha... gotta catch some of these again!

7. Is one of my favorite deaths.
11. YESS I can watch her fight against Vernita Green over and over.
13. My Goodnes
16. Yes I didn't see that coming in that way.
17. Yep a classic!
I haven't see the rest.

5. Ohh Men, I am the kind of person with an undying love for Awards Ceremonies, Oscars use to be my favorite, I made my Mother and my Sister to record in VHS the ceremonies, so I can watch them as soon as I came back from my trips. Good old memories.

The only one of those I saw was 'Rush Hour 3' because I was sent to review it. It was the opposite of laughing.

I gotta finally get around to seeing Louie from the start. Saw a few random episodes here and there and they were hilarious, always loved his standup glad he's finally getting the big success
Louie CK is as great a writer/director as he is a comic. The first season is great. I especially love the "God" episode. If you have yet to see that one, I highly recommend it.

You have a thing for sketch comedy, and you place American Dad and The Simpsons above Family Guy. Very interesting.

2. Gave me a few laughs
5. Gave me a bunch of laughs
9. I laughed as hell!
P.S. Love this list.

Aww, I saw ID4 in the theater! I remember because my parents were getting divorced and my dad was like "screw this, let's go see that alien movie."
I only saw it on VHS every day for about two years, but I imagine it looks great on the big screen.

Scary images? I don't recall any in Americ... I mean Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland.

17. I love sports movies in general, talking about Basketball did you see that one with Jeff Bridges, Shak O'Neal and the guy from "Married with Children"? is one of my favorites.
16. Never gets old, never
14. Same choice
2. Nice choice!
^ I love sports movies too. Are you talking about Blue Chips? I have seen it but only a few minutes of it once. They showed it to us at school and it was really awkward because there's a lot of cursing in the the first scene. So we never finished watching it. Also, I think you're thinking of Nick Nolte not Jeff Bridges.

I always trust what he does. When his name is on a movie, I'll always give it a chance.

I didn't love Spanglish the first time I saw it, but the second time was a lot better. It was also written and directed by James L. Brooks and I'm never going to turn down anything he does.

Dennis Hopper is the definition of intimidation, especially in Blue Velvet.
Ermey is always intimidating.
I always expect Jackson to scream at me if I ever met him.
@G-Funk: Nice!
@Psycho: Gotta agree with you there. That movie was the exact reason why I put him on the list.
@horror: Ermey just has that way about him. But he was actually in the military so he sure knows from experience.
Who doesn't feel that way about Jackson?

Ghostbusters 2 is definitely a big step down from the first one but I still love it. And I've always had a lot of guilty fun with the Charlie's Angels movies.
I think I've watched GB 2 more than the original. For some reason, I always watched it on Friday nights for a really long time.

#3 Good plan.
#1 Like DC, every American needs to see NYC at least once. Have fun when you go. I lived there for a summer, and MFC has plenty of New Yorkers on it. They can tell you about the Big Apple. The common words are true: "You will love New York, and you will hate New York."
Based on a list by Terminal_83
"Fuck" is so popular. I love it. Plus Irish parent means I get to use the word quite freely around the house.

Based on a list by Kevin Smith fan
I love number 1 mate. I need to see number 2. Shocking I know. Number 7 doesn't get enough recognition in my opinion. That was one SERIOUS event movie.
You need to see number 2 right away. Steve Martin and John Candy are excellent. 7 is one of those movies that gets better the more you watch it.

Based on a list by Psycho-Pirate-99
#4 My parents and I watched Coming to America together in the theatre. In many ways, Murphy's film is a good family film. "Royal penis" references aside.
#9 & #10 Now those selections are just good liberal parenting :D

Based on a list by horrorfan23
I think that #8 is the only one where I really liked all of the movies in the series. I liked the first three American Pie movies that I saw in the theater but have not seen the 4th one. Beverly Hills Cop 3 is not a good movie and European Vacation pretty much sucked.
I haven't seen the fourth American Pie either, but I will at some point. Beverly Hills Cop III is the worst in its series and European Vacation is pretty forgettable.

Your list appeas to be in chronological order. However, Avengers would top most anyone's May list by any criteria.
I am glad that you re-watched Dumb and Dumber and Hot Fuzz. A person must re-visit these comedic Sherlocks occasionally. Surely, these comedies balanced your psyche after some of the heavy dramas that you watched.
^It is in chronological order. Avengers just happens to be number #1. I'm a comedy fan so comedies like Dumb and Dumber and Hot Fuzz are going to make multiple appearances on these lists. But nothing wrong with heavy dramas once in a while.

I have to argue (a little) with 1. 20 minutes, for most movies, is the first act of the movie. The first act is typically set up, or what happens BEFORE the actual hook or story sets in. Most of the best moments in a movie are from the second act, which kicks in right AFTER 20 minutes of the movie.
A recent example... I went to see Men in Black 3. The first 20 minutes made me feel like the movie was going to be terrible. I thought it was just trying (and failing) to emulate what the first Men in Black movie did well. Then, 25 minutes in, during the second act, I actually found myself interested. Once the story kicked in, I was onboard. Until then, I could have checked out at any moment.
Only one time have a stopped watching a movie before it got to the second act... and that movie was Ultraviolet. It was utter garbage, and I was pretty sure that wasn't going to change.
Anyways... I like 2-5. Very good. :) haha
^I can see what you're saying because there have been some movies that haven't exactly wowed me in the first 20 minutes, but sometimes it gets going in the second act. I had that same feeling watching The Heartbreak Kid a few years ago.
Haha that movie's a strange example because I never saw the beginning
I was either 4 or 5 when I saw it. I was pretty young at the time. I think it scared me at the time because that was maybe too young to see it. Also, I started crying.
Based on a list by Terminal_83
First of all, how did you find out? Second, of all the ones I watched, my favorite was the episode with Shelley Long as Ed O'Neill's ex from the first season.

I have heard so many people say Season 3 of Arrested Development was the best. I was always more partial to 2.
Hell yes Always sunny season 5, still my favorite!!!! Still my favorite tv show, good choice
@ericodarko: Yes, it is. That last scene with Gus in the hospital was brilliant.
@cerealkiller: The show as a whole is flawless, but season 3 is just so crazy and absurd in its stories. Also, there's Mock Trial with J. Reinhold.
@Nick KEWL: It's my favorite tv show right now, but season 5 makes me laugh more than other season.

That's exactly why I like #4. When I watch it, I feel like I'm living back in the 80's. Like you said, they show actual videos, which the other music channels (MTV, regular VH1) don't do, although that was the original objective, but they're too busy showing Jersey Shore and pregnant teenagers to care.

'' RESERVATION ROAD '' , '' TALK RADIO '' , '' THE SAVAGES '' , '' HARD EIGHT '' and '' MARGOT AT THE WEDDING '' are all outstanding flicks . Nicely done .
Safe Men is my favorite movie on this list. It's a hilarious movie. You probably won't laugh at it at first and but it really works in repeats. Glad you like the list.
The book of Holes is the best book I've ever read. The movie's great, but it's no book.

I'm a big Goldthwait fan. You wouldn't think he would be as good of a director as he is.
I never thought Zed from the Police Academy movies would turn out to be such a great director. I was surprised when I saw World's Greatest Dad and how well made it was.

I don't ever want to believe Screwed is a "so bad, it's good" movie. But I've been watching this since I was 9 so I have some sort of personal attachment to it. That's probably the only time "Screwed" and "personal attachment" will ever be mentioned in the same comment.

#6 You pick a band from before your time. I am impressed. Sometimes, a different era's music does speak to a person.

#9 Apparently, Critters and Ghoulies are not a threat. Well, one supposes that they are not, for no one remembers them.
Often, these listed movies offer such iconic performances that these classics cannot be legitimately remade. Who would surpass Eddie Murphy (#8), Phoebe Cates (#9), Bruce Willis (#4), the entire cast of Young Frankenstein, or the entire cast of Breakfast Club? No one, that's who.

I don't think Oz is the right show to watch with your mum. It's quite graphic.
cool list. My mom and I also watch Dexter and Six Feet Under together. she loves them.
@OKC: I didn't intend to watch Oz with her. I was watching it by myself and she just happened to see me watch it and got hooked. She often doesn't like violence but she loves this show.
@Righteous_faustus: My mom felt guilty the first time she watched and liked Dexter because he's a serial killer. But, she's better about it now especially since he's a serial killer that kills other killers.
Luck had potential and I'm going to miss listening to that theme song even though I watched only 2 episodes. You can't not have a list like this without #1 and #2.

A lot of underrated flicks on here and I love it! Ghost World, Little Children, Night Shift.....and you know we both share a love for Drop Dead Gorgeous.

This is awesome dude! Sunny is my favorite show, I'm definitely copying this list. I think The Gang gets Crippled is my favorite.
That's another favorite episode of mine but they're all so great. In fact, I could have put more, but I wanted to limit myself to only 25, because if I didn't, the entire show would have been on it. It's just such a funny show, I could watch any episode and laugh at it. Glad you like the list!

I'm pretty sure any young boy with a pulse, including myself, had a crush on Lea Thompson.

Cool list my man. I recommend Lifeboat, it's a Hitchcock flick that takes place only on.....a lifeboat. It's brilliant.
Gotta check that out at some point. Sometimes when I go to Best Buy, I see the DVD sitting there on the shelf. It looked interesting. Plus I love Hitchcock. Thanks for the recommendation.

All of these actors were lucky to be on Night Court. It looks like many of them got off to good starts.
#7 Astin was great. His recurring joke/line was "But, I'm feeling much better now." I used to use that one a lot for laughs back in high school.
#14 Spiner was fucken hilarious. He stole every episode in which he appeared. Obviously, Yoshio remembers Spiner's role fondly too.

You remember the good stuff: Devo, Adam Ant, The Kinks, The Psychedelic Furs, David Bowie. You would fit in in the early '80s were a time machine created next year.

I don't remember which one it was, but one of my first R rated movies was a Lethal Weapon movie also.
Great! Then you can finally show me how great The Patriot is, which I still have not seen.

God to see someone else who like 4 months, loved that film. It's one of my top ten.
Just added 4 Months, 3 Weeks, and 2 Days to my Netflix queue. Thanks for the list! I have to watch all of these.

Yes I did, but you have to admit those boobs are just asking to be motorboated.

#4 Lea Thompson was an adolescent crush here too. And, I am twice your age, and she is older than I. Apparently, some women have just got IT.
Having a crush on Lea Thompson should be a rite of passage for any adolescent who watches Back to the Future. She's just so adorable even today. You can tell age is being kind to her.
Funny list. Mine also would have included Danielle Harris, Lucy Lawless, and Danielle Fishel

I've always been curious about Howard The Duck since I was a kid. I know there's a huge chance of it being awful, but I won't know if I don't see it. That's pretty much how I feel about all the movies on this list.
There's awful, and then there's the so bad it's entertaining awful. I consider Howard the Duck in the latter. Just make sure you have plenty of booze to watch it with. Trust me, it makes it so much better.
Goddamn, I'd say number 1,2,3 and 5 warrant experimentation, but fuck number 4.

I would probably rank City Island a 9/10, I really loved that movie, glad you liked it. Also cool to see Princess Mononoke on here, animation at its best.
Princess Mononoke was the first Miyazaki movie I've ever seen. Judging from what I saw, I would like to see more from him.
If you are a fan of animation then Miyazaki is a name to become familiar with. My personal favorites of his are Spirited Away, My Neighbor Totoro and Castle in the Sky.

I love the Cosby Show, but Night Court was funnier in terms of storytelling.
Dude your #1 is the reason why you are so cool! That's my favorite show of all time.
^I've been a fan since the first season and I tried as hard as I could to convince people in middle school to watch it without success. It's one of the few shows that I probably laugh at every episode.

I think none of us reach the levels of obsessiveness than those in cinemania haha
^That's true. I've definitely never thought movies were better than sex like one of the guys says in the movie.

I only put shows that were on the Trio cable channel, which I used to watch when I was younger.
Those are the exact same words my mother uses to describe her and I agree with the both of you.

The Where The Wild Things Are trailer had me at this pinnacle of joy, that the movie didn't stand a chance at living up to my expectations.
This had to take you forever!
If you're talking about the list, it took a while but I have some experience with HTML so I got the gist of it pretty quickly.
