VHS Memory Theater Review #4: The Parent Trap

Purchase History: 1998 Christmas present from my mom.

The Parent Trap is about two girls from completely different backgrounds. Hallie is from California, and Annie is from England. This summer, they’re both going to summer camp. Also, they’ve just found out that they’re twins. It turns out that their parents have been divorced and that each parent kept one twin to raise. So they come up with an idea to switch places to meet each other’s parents. They then decide to reunite their parents. It turns out that their father, Nick (Dennis Quaid) is getting married to a gold digger and it’s up to them to foil the wedding plans. In order for that to happen, they invite their mother, Elizabeth (Natasha Richardson) to California. Quaid and Richardson are good as the parents here. But Lindsay Lohan is pretty impressive as the twins. It’s too bad to see the route she’s gone recently because she really could have been something, but I’m not giving up hope. It’s one of those movies you can’t really dislike. I felt good after watching it.

How does this hold up? The story is really sweet. The actors are pretty good. It's a nice movie.

Is it worth double dipping on DVD? Of course.

Would I recommend it? Yes, it’s perfect family entertainment.
