Plot: Mockumentary about pop star Conner 4 Real

The Lonely Island is a great comedic musical group as they both create some catchy pop songs while ripping them to shreds at the same time. The satire and genuine talent makes me a big fan of their albums. Now we have in a way their first official movie and it is a mockumentary for a fake artist named Conner 4 Real that rips the music industry a new one. It is engaging and funny while being filled to the brim with celebrity cameos.

Good: The Lonely Island's talent of making catchy pop songs about the most idiotic things reign supreme here as well. There are some truly hilarious songs here that are just catchy and worth listening outside of the movie. Andy Samberg and company work well together considering they have been an act for years now. The mockumentary aspect plays well to the story and they put in a lot of work to make it seem legitimate. The satire of pop stars and the music industry is on point and deliver some hilarious scenes. The cameos are abundant, but considering the subject matter, they work here although some more than others.

Bad: The humor at times can be childish and not funny. The pokes at pop culture while entertaining can also be too obvious. Not all the songs work as some seem like filler to me. The movie also felt like it dragged at the end and could've had five minutes cut out from it.

Overall, if you are a Lonely Island fan, then this worth the watch. It has some catchy songs and offers up some great spoof humor of celebrities and the music industry. Not a complete success, but more deserving than other comedies out there.
