Review:

I consider this as a classic road trip movie that is good-natured at it's core, but it is also very funny. The team of Spade and Farley are at their best here as they share some great chemistry together. Farley (RIP) is so likable as Tommy that while he is a big man-child, he has a good heart and tries to do the right thing even if he fucks up every opportunity to do so. It also features a strong supporting cast like Rob Lowe as the scummy "stepbrother", Bo Derek as the crazy hot "stepmom", and Brian Dennehy as Tommy's father. The comedy here works well throughout with many quotable lines and scenes particularly the "burning car sales pitch" that I quote constantly when given the chance. The negatives are pretty standard such as the plot is basic road trip formula, the love interest is pretty blah, and maybe a little bit more Dan Aykroyd would've been fine.

Plot (5/10): By the numbers storyline about the goofball saving the day.

Acting (8/10): Spade and Farley are what make this movie watchable and entertaining.

Comedy (8/10): Many quotable lines and scenes in this movie that you can't deny it works.

Direction (6/10): It looks kinda like a TV movie to me for some reason. Good thing the director exploited as much of Farley and Spade as he could.

Eye Candy (7/10): Bo Derek is a hot MILF and Julie Warner is pretty cute.

Overall, while it is a generic road trip comedy, Farley's character and his interactions with Spade are what makes this movie.
