Americans dream often of the munificent industrialist or rich man. Such characters are American icons--even if they contrast sometimes with reality.
Other superheroes/legends display a similar binary:
Green Arrow, Iron Man, Moon Knight, and Wasp are all champions of the 99% but members of the 1%. Furthermore, Wasp is a stereotype of White Anglo-Saxon Protestants (WASPs), a group generalized as rich and out-of-touch.
With similar irony:
Daredevil and She-Hulk are both crimefighters and lawyers. Superman and Spider-Man are both supermen and nerds. The Flash, Batgirl, The Spirit, Martian Manhunter, and Tigra are both vigilantes and law enforcement. Thor is an ass-kicker and a physician. Mr. Fantastic is a man of reason. Nightcrawler is a priest. And, Black Lightning is a teacher, someone who usually suppresses violence.
