Why a Jaws rebootremakeimagining is beyond stupid
I had a conversation (or a conversation with a brick wall) with someone that wanted Jaws to be rebooted because he thought that the movie could taken in a new direction. What?
Here's the reasons why a Jaws re-anything will not work at all:
1. You can't recapture anything that the original had. It's been parodied and mimicked so many times especially with imitators that it won't work.
2. What new direction can you take it? The franchise took the shark to fucking Sea World and the Bahamas following a Brody relative. Not to mention that any killer animal movie after Jaws pretty much used up any creative scenarios (Deep Blue Sea for example) so where else can you go other than just re-creating the movie?
3. It's unnecessary to the max.
Jaws alongside movies like The Exorcist and The Godfather are those films that are so vital to their genre and imitated so often that a remake would not only tarnish the legacy, but it would just feel like another clone.
AngrySpielberg knocked it out the park on the first movie. No reboots necessary.
Just.. Yes.. Yes and yes. I standby my claim that Jaws is impossible to remake and if it is I would take it as the death of Hollywood.
Everything that worked so well in the film came from creative ideas born out of the moment from the errors on set.. The entire barrel sequence was amplified because the shark wasn't working, which lessened the amount of time the shark spent on screen and only added to the tension. The actors performances were amplified because they were tired and frustrated, and the legendary real life "beef" between Shaw and Dreyfuss was captured on film.
It would most certainly involve:
-partying college students
-heavy CGI
-trick photography and fast editing
-no suspense or dread.
I could go on but this blog already did it.
As pointed out , this is virtually impossible . More so than almost any film , this is as close to PERFECT as we're likely to see . There are so many levels that the film works on , it's a fool's game to even consider it . MEANING , OF COURSE , THAT THIS IS CERTAIN, AT SOME POINT , TO HAPPEN . That's the only frightening aspect to a re-boot .

But we could add CGI and a talking dog called Colin. I'd pay to see it.
