I just read that Meryl Streep won best actress. I love my girl and she is one of my favourite actresses...but I was REALLY hoping Rooney Mara, or even Michelle Williams would win it.
I'm with Terror Australis on this one. She was good, no doubt. But in my opinion Noomi Rapace was much better.
I'm so glad the Oscars didn't drool over Mara this year. Let her work for her meals.
^Don't all actors work for their meals? It's called acting. She was good in Dragon Tattoo. Which I wasn't expecting at all if only becuase I love Rapace in the role and thought there was no way Mara could pull it off. But she managed.
Did you not like her in the movie Terminal? I realize you're not a fan of her, and to be honest I'm not yet either, but for the most part she's picked bad roles or very minor ones. This was her first real chance to shine in a leading role and she did a good job I thought. And isn't that what the awards are for? To say "Oh I'm glad she didn't win because then she gets off easy" is bullshit.
Dude, she's from a rich family, she's basically fetishized by David Fincher, her whole facade comes off as phony and thought up by publicists and image consultants. It's enough, already.
One good role does not an actress make. Let her earn her war scars for ten years and come back to the Oscars.
Like I said, I'm not a fan of her yet, but I did her like her in this, and it showed me has potential to be a good actress, which I hadn't really seen from her before. I'm not going to praise her or anything, she hasn't earned that quite yet, but I'm not going to remain ignorant and say she's bad anymore either.
Well I didn't think she was that good in TGWTDT and insist she's not a good actress, so I guess I'm ignorant.
It's weird, I wasn't even expecting Meryl to win.
Also I'm getting a vibe that Terminal doesn't care for Rooney Mara but I could be way off.
Thank you WalkAway! I was starting to feel alone thinking that statement here xD
Noomi was brilliant as well, and should have gotten an oscar nom too in my opinion, but of all the performances I've seen this year, Rooney's was my favourite!
@Derek: LMAO! Glad you're feeling the vibe. I was kind of making it apparent. It's not Rooney's time.

I also wanted her to win.. thought she was great. It was an especially hard task since Noomi Rapace already nailed that character brilliantly in 3 separate movies.. Rooney made it her own and brought a version to life that I felt better captured the essence of the book.
