Review:

While it's not quite The Dark Knight, Spider-Man 2 does manage to set a new standard for a cool superhero sequel.

You could forgive some of the pacing problems in the first film because it was an intro to this world and these characters. That said, Spider-Man 2 takes those expectations for a superhero movie into account and makes a more action oriented film without going too over the top with it. It's not like The Incredible Hulk, which was clearly made just for action, and it's not like Hulk which was clearly made just for story. It's a great middle ground.

Spider-Man 2 has a lot to get done in two hours. There's the intorduction of a new villain, the character development for our hero, the development of the love story, and the action scenes themselves. Sam Raimi never loses sight of any of these in the context of the story. It juggles all these, but not in a flashy way. It's subtle, but it pays off in the long run.

One of the more underrated superhero films, Spider-Man 2 is a flat-out good movie.

I had a blast with this one and initially liked it more than the original when I first saw it, but I noticed upon repeat viewings it doesn't hold up as well as the original
