Unlike this summer's earlier, and brilliant, Star Trek, this "reboot" of a popular franchise brings absolutely nothing new to the table. Although, I guess I couldn't even be expecting much since just about everything in the thematic department has already been all said and done with the first two Terminator installments. Terminator Salvation is just bloated, big-budgeted fan fiction with nearly zero redeeming quality. Sure, McG can craft a decent action sequence, but what else can he offer? From poorly written characters, a lazily plotted story outline, and an ensemble of talent gone to waste, there's really nothing to be engaged with at all. It may even be a real shame, because while no future installment will ever reach the same ground that James Cameron touched with his first two Terminators (the only REAL installments in my opinion), this could have actually been a fun time, at the least, and even a worthy attempt for up-and-comer Sam Worthington to prove his worth (the man was second to Daniel Craig for the role of James Bond. He's gotta have something worthwhile about him), but the end result is just lazy, turgid filmmaking.
