I revisited The Force Awakens during a recent bike training session and after the third viewing I can say it holds up well. It hit all the right notes from what I wanted from a Star Wars continuation story. Daisy Ridley is super adorable. My only heartburn came from the forced interactions between Finn and Poe.

Lego Batman was a lot of fun.

So I asked my boys if they wanted to see Lego Batman in the theater expecting that they probably would not care (they are 13 and 15 now) but to my surprise they were quite excited to see it. I just booked us seats to see it in IMAX on Friday #bestdadever

Since there seemed to be decent excitement around The Dark Tower film I decided to take a flyer and download the book series to read. It's what I generally do when I travel.

I have been revisiting 80s action films while on my bike trainer. The latest, Commando...mindless fun.

Commando is apparently such a classic that my dad introduced his grandkid to it at Christmas. We all enjoyed watching it, honestly.

Was I the only one that caught and appreciated Jon Hamm's "beard parade 2017" joke? Seriously, I am all for beards but please 1) only grow one if you actually can. Those scraggly patchy hipster beards just make you look unkempt and unhygienic. 2) Keep them trim and neat like Ryan Reynolds. I love Casey Affleck but he looks like the Unibomber.

It was an old school kind of day First was dash back in time to the original Rambo installment, First Blood, while training on my bike. Then my now teenage boys voted to watch The Incredibles on this chilly afternoon. There was a tremendous consumption of popcorn.

Opinions

Ridley Scott was recently credited with the following quote:

"Superhero movies are not my kind of thing - that's why I've never really done one...[I've been asked] several times, but I can't believe in the thin, gossamer tight-rope of the non-reality of the situation of the superhero...cinema mainly is pretty bad...I hope it doesn't affect those of us who still keep making smart films."

Everyone is entitled to their opinion, that is clear. I would prefer, however, that opinions were either simply stated without justification or, if necessary, at least justified with some intelligence. I do not have to agree with it but I can respect a soundly stated point of view. Sadly, Scott's commentary does not meet that bar. If he had ended with the first sentence I would have been sated but his subsequent justification caused me mental pain in its self aggrandizing pompousness.

Did he even watch Prometheus?

Ridley doesn't come off as the kind of director who would ever do a superhero film. Given his own trailblazing, especially in the sci fi genre I can see how he is turned off by the superhero gimmick. That being said, like you pointed out Fab, the latter part of his argument definitely gives off the vibe of his emotions playing into his opinion rather than a logically stated opinion, which is what I am assuming he'd rather portray.

#1 Christmas is a great time for reflection. It might even punctuate the year better than the typically wild New Year's Eve.

#8 A Christmas Carol complements any Christmas reflection that a person might make, and it delivers several powerful and enduring messages.

Taking my ex and her husband and my boys to see Rogue One tomorrow night. I was not terribly excited for this film because I am more interested in the Star Wars saga continuing rather than these "fill in the gaps" stories but the positive reviews have me intrigued.

Chillaxing at home, we were flipping channels and found Rocky. In a movie filled to the brim with great scenes and quotes, my favourite is "He doesn't know it's a damn show! He thinks it's a damn fight!" A lesson for all those who take things for granted.
